Crawford Services for Miss Hazel Alpha Crawford of Harrisonburg, La., were held Monday, May 2, at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg with burial following at the Harrisonburg Cemetery. Miss Crawford, 80, died Saturday, April 30, 1988, in Jefferson Davis Hospital, Natchez, Miss., after a long illness. She was the last known surviving member of the well known Catahoula Parish family of Phillip Benjamin and Martha Turnley Crawford of Harrisonburg. She was a sister of the late former Winn Parish County Agent Horace E. Crawford of Winnfield and over the years a frequent Winnfield visitor. Miss Crawford was an elementary teacher for 45 years, a 40 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers' sorority, and a current member of the La. Retired Teachers Assn. She was a charter and 54 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a charter and 40 year member of Harrisonburg Women's Club, and a 40 year member of the Fort Beauregard Homemakers Club. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Harrisonburg. Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Local Winnfield survivors include her nephew, Charles Edward Crawford, his wife Linda and daughters Carolee and Polly; her sister in law, Mrs. H. E. (Corrine Mixon) Crawford, and her cousin, Mrs. J. O. (Maude Turnley) Anders. She is also survived by her niece and great nephew, Mrs. Beth Crawford Swanson and Mark Swanson, of Morgan City, La.
