All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 12, 1967 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Last Rites For Retired Negro Teacher Held Funeral services for Mary Jane Cunningham, 75, retired Negro school teacher, who died October 6, 1967 after a lengthy illness, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, at Union Hill Baptist Church, Ward Eight. Burial was in the New Morning Star Cemetery, St. Maurice. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Odelle Purvis of St. Maurice and spent most of her life in Ward Eight where she taught school. She also taught school at the Rock Quarry before that school was abandoned. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Cunningham, Ward Eight; two daughters, Helen Kelly of Houston, Texas and Senia Hobdy of Winnfield; one son, Elmo Cunningham, Shreveport; four sisters, one brother, 18 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
