Curry, one of Winnfield's most highly esteemed citizens died suddenly Friday morning August 12th at 12:50, with a heart attack at his home here. He had been in ill health for about two years. Although his death was expected at any moment, it was a distinct shock. Mr. Curry was married October 26th, 1899, to Miss Lucy Hand of Corinth and to this union four daughters were born, all surviving. They have lived in Winn Parish about twenty-one years where he held a responsible position with the Tremont Lumber Company for 18 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here and of the Masonic Lodge of Georgetown. Services were held at the Beech Creek Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home, Rev. John Kitchingham and Rev. Burton Miley of Harrisonburg, officiating, after which interment was made in the Beech Creek Cemetery. The services were largely attended attesting to the popularity of the deceased and his grave was covered with numerous floral offerings, the final tribute of a host of friends. In addition to his widow, he is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Oswald Martin and Mrs. Owen Giles, Winnfield, Mrs. Willie O'Donnell, Rochelle, and Mrs. Sam Stilley, Phoenix, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren. One brother, E. R. Curry of Curry, and four sisters, Mrs. Tom Hudson of near Joyce, Mrs. Luther Martin, Standard, Mrs. Della Mercer, Winnsboro, and Mrs. Emily Curry, Hemphill, Texas. Mr. Curry was 62 years and six months old, born in Caldwell Parish where he spent his boyhood days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge Curry. His father was a Confederate soldier and fought in the Battle of Shiloh. Pallbearers were H. W. Bass, Hubert Hand, Felix Mercer, O. B. Thompson, Miley Walsworth, and P. Hugh Mercer. Everyone in the community has been touched with grief at the passing of Mr. Curry and every heart goes out in sympathy to the grief stricken family.
