M. Cockerham Of Joyce Dies Sunday Morning At Home Funeral Service Held Monday at Union Baptist Church Henry Maxwell Cockerham, known as "Bud" Cockerham, former member of the Winn Parish Policy Jury and School Board, died at his home near Joyce, Sunday morning following an illness that extended over a period of several months. Funeral services were held Monday morning conducted by the Rev. J. A. McMurry assisted by Rev. W. M. Grice and the Rev. A. J. McMurry at the Union Baptist Church and internment was made in the church cemetery. A special part of the program was the singing of the deceased's favorite hymns, "What a Friend We have in Jesus" and "Sweet By and By" led by the Rev. A. J. McMurry. Mr. Cockerham was a deacon in the Union Hill Baptist Church at Joyce, where he held church membership since early manhood. He served as a member of the Winn Parish School Board from Ward 2 beginning in 1917, and in 1924 was elected police juror from his ward. He is survived by his widow, five [this may be a typographical error as only three sons are listed] sons, Rev. J. A. Cockerham, A. W. Cockerham and H. M. Cockerham of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. J. E. Hearn, Winnfield, Mrs. Dee Franklin, New Orleans; Mrs. H. O. Drewett and Mrs. C. M. Clegorne, Winnfield. Pall bearers at the funeral were Max Thieme, Jesse Durham, Arthur McMurry, Earl Cockerham, Ivy Creel and D. F. Shell.
