S. Forest Service forester, died June 22 in a local hospital of pneumonia. He had recovered partially from a first attack in May, but was hospitalized again a few days before his death. Mr. Crooks had been on the staff of the Winnfield Forest Service Office since 1949, and had been with the service since 1941. Including time with the CCC his government service totaled 27 years. Before coming to Winnfield he had worked in Pollock with the forest service there. He was a member of the New Jerusalem Batist Church. Survivors include his wife, a son, Greg Crooks, Winnfield, and a daughter, Linda Kay Crooks, Winnfield; a brother, Jack Crooks, Winnfield; six sisters, Mrs. J. W. Cruse, Mrs. E. J. Edmonds, and Mrs. C. H. Gales, Buckeye; Mrs. A. A. Cruse of Dausette, Tex., Mrs. Harry Admon, Alexandria, and Mrs. Bobbie Luneau of Center Point. Last rites were conducted by the Rev. E. P. Bringol and Rev. J. D. Thompson at 2 p.m. June 23 in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
