Newman Services for Mr. John J. Newman were held at 3 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2002, in the chapel at Southern Funeral Home. Revs. Dick DeBusk and Ken Evans officiated. Burial followed in Old Union Cemetery, Joyce, La. Mr. Newman, age 65, died Saturday, August 3, 2002 at his residence. Mr. Newman was an all-district football player for the Winnfield Tigers from 1953-1956 and was all state and captain of the football team in 1956. He was a former Winn Parish Police Jury member and was retired from the oil industry. He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Newman, and his brother, James "Sonnyboy" Newman. Survivors include his mother, Mildred Newman of Joyce; one son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Theresa Newman of West Monroe; one daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Newman Evans and Jonathan Evans of Winnfield; three grandchildren, Amanda Newman and Isaac Newman of West Monroe and Joshua Evans of Winnfield; and former wife, Pat McCartney Newman of Joyce. Pallbearers were Charlie Bice, Phillip Wilkerson, Bill Berry, J.W. "Jerry" Rushton, Monty Wayne Atkins, Chad McCartney, Durane Johnson and Joe Evans. Honorary Pallbearers were the class of 1956. He will be sadly missed by the coffee drinkers at the round table at the caf‚, and by many family and friends. Glenn Mixon officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Winnfield, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA. Mr. Pinder, age 92 of Winnfield, LA died Thursday, August 1, 2002 in the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia, LA. He was retired from the LA. Department of Transportation and was a Baptist. Survivors are one son, Jessie Orlean Pinder of Grayson, LA; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Elliott of Columbia, LA and Nellie Faye Jordan of Sikes, LA; 27 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Mr. Wright, age 86 of Winnfield, LA died Sunday, August 4 in the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa and was an auto mechanic. Survivors are his wife, Mildred Welch Wright of Winnfield, LA; two daughters, Marlene Wright of Queensbury, NY and Cheryl Wright and husband Jerry of Winnfield; four grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.*********************** Ethel Mae Durham Funeral services for Ethel Durham was held Saturday Aug. 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, Martin Luther King with Dr. Rev. Funeral services and Christian reflection, Sister Durham was a long time member of Morning Star Baptist Church from an early age until her death Aug. 6, 2002 Winn Parish Medical Center. She remained strong and very faithful to God and shared His words daily to those she came in contact with in Sunday School, Bible study, the Choir, Prayer meeting. She served in the capacity of the Poor Saint Society and the Women Alliance. Also active in any community and civic cause. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. Survivors are her husband for Fifty year R. L. Durham, and three daughters Diane H. Young, Patricia Durham, and Judy D. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray R. Chandler, Sr. and by her daughter, Frances Annette Hanna. She is survived by one brother, Lee Veil Fobbs of Minden, La; two sisters-in-law, Lynnie J. Fobbs of Pass Christian, MS, and Jean Todd of Winnfield. Fogger, age 77 of Winnfield, LA died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. Rev. Fogger was born in Bienville, LA and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II and Korea, a member of Hart Assembly of God Church and was a retired US Postal Worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona Fogger; his parents, Iuria and Lillie Fogger; one brother, Thomas Atley Fogger; and one granddaughter. Survivors are two sons, Rev. Mark Fogger and wife Tammy of Branson West, Missouri and Timothy Fogger and wife Gwen of Jonesboro, LA; two daughters, Cherie Jones and husband Doyle of Waxahachie, TX and Rebecca Crochet and husband Audie of Grand Isle, LA; two brothers, Glen Fogger and wife Marilyn of Winnfield and Lloyd Fogger and wife Judy of Montgomery; eight grandchildren and host of family and friends. Burial followed in Forest Lawn in Pineville, LA. Mr. Roberts, age 83 of Bentley, died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. Mr. Roberts was a World War II veteran and retired from the Army National Guard. Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Barkley and Cindy Roberts of Pollock, Winston and Charlene Roberts of Pollock, Harry D. Jr. and Katherine Roberts of Jena; three grandchildren Errol Roberts of Pollock, Cheryl Welch of Prospect and Kenneth Roberts of Jena; two sisters, Myrtle McDaniel of Baton Rouge, and Joann Garner of Winnfield; three brothers, Buddy Roberts and Sherman Roberts of Winnfield, Ed Roberts of Butte, Montana and four great grandchildren.
