He was born in Homer, LA, was a graduate of Dodson High School and Louisiana Tech University, a member of the Cypress Creek Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and was a member of the cemetery board. He was a production supervisor and was an avid fisherman. Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home. Mr. Calhoun, age 81, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 in the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Pineville, LA. He was born in the Calvin Community of Winn Parish and lived there his entire life. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1942-1946. He was a retired school bus driver and farmer. He also was employed by the Cary Salt Mine, Winn Plywood Plant, and the United States Forest Service. He was a life-time member of the Union Hill Baptist Church were he served as a deacon for 48 years, financial secretary and Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Calhoun was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to help those who needed a helping hand. He loved his family dearly and was a model father. He will be remembered as one who showed respect to and love for all. He found great joy in his family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, church work, mechanical work, reading and farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Calhoun and Jurllean Garner Calhoun, his wife of 38 years, Vadie Lue Riser Calhoun, three brothers: Hazie Calhoun, Isaac Calhoun Jr., and Willie Marshall Calhoun; one sister-in-law, Inez Calhoun; and one brother-in-law, Gus Jones. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Montgomery Jarnagin and Ethel Ophelia Stroud Jarnagin; one brother, Bryant Jarnagin and one sister, Nelda Garrett. Williams, a resident of Minden was born December 21, 1924 in Winnfield, La to the late Gus and Roseanne Smith Williams. He departed this life to be with the Lord on August 3, 2003 in Shreveport, LA. Oscar C. Williams faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II as a Steward Third Class. Mr. Williams was a retired educator and elementary school principal, having worked in Winn, Lincoln and Webster Parish School Systems for over 30 years. Mr. Williams was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a Steward, Church Treasurer, and coordinator of the Helping Hands Food Program. He also served as a member of the Joint Board of Finance of the Louisiana CME Conference. Oscar C. Williams, a devoted Civic Servant and Humanitarian was active in many organizations and causes including Kiwanis International, Webster Association of Retired Teachers, AARP, Boys and Girls Club of Minden Board Member, Minden- South Webster Chamber of Commerce, Grambling Alumni Webster Parish Chapter, Life member of the National Grambling Alumni Association, Life Member of the National Educators Association, NAACP, Boys Scouts of America and a former member of the Minden Civil Service Board. Mrs. DeLoach passed away at her home in Shreveport, LA at 8:15 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2003. Mrs. DeLoach was born on November 25, 1907 in Winn Parish, Louisiana. She moved to Shreveport in 1950. After working as a seamstress for several years she went to vocational school and studied to be a nurse, which she had always wanted to be. She worked for 17 years at Willis Knighton Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Willow Point Baptist Church, Shreveport, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman R. DeLoach, her parents, Reuben and Myra Adams Parker; three brothers, Talmadge, Homer and Clyde Parker, and two grandchildren, William Lee 'Bill" DeLoach and Linda Corkem Hulett. He was born in Winnfield LA, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1958- 1959, was a member of First United Methodist Church, attended Tulane University and graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. and Allied Sciences, St. Louis, MI; was owner and operator of New Winnfield Drug, was a member of the Winnfield Rotary Club, past president and Paul Harris Fellow and former member of the Winnfield City Council. Survivors are his wife, Jeri Endom Emerson of Winnfield, LA; two daughters, Carolyn Bruce and husband Ronnie of Monroe, LA and Laura Marshall and husband Bob of Baton Rouge, LA; and three grandchildren: Jeremy, Samantha and Stephanie. Mrs. Head, age 77, of West Monroe, formerly of Sikes, died Monday, August 25, 2003 in the West Monroe Guest House. She was born in Ouachita; Parish and was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Raymond Head of Strong, Arkansas; one daughter, Dian Parsons of Birmingham, Alabama; three sisters, Bobbie Smith of Monroe, Wilma Arrant of West Monroe and Jo Ann Boult of West Covina, California; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
