With tearful eyes, we watched her suffer and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not ask her to stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands were put to rest. God broke our hearts, to prove, He only takes the BEST. Annette Kelly Carpenter died at her daughter's home in Dodson on Saturday, November 27, 1999. Services wee [were] held Tuesday, November 30, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with Dr. Calvin Phelps and Rev. Steve Palmer officiating. Interment was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Gaar's Mill. Annette graduated from Dodson High School and Louisiana Tech University. She worked in the Winn Parish School System in the Preschool Program and then worked at the Louisiana State Department of Education in the Infant and Toddler Program. She devoted her life to helping children and those in need. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dodson, where she served as piano player for many years. Survivors include her mother, Maltha Kelly Kyle of Winnfield; one son, Terry Carpenter of Natchitoches; three daughters, Tammy Carpenter of West Monroe, Kim McManus and husband Richard of Dodson and Karla Shively and husband Ronnie of Dodson; three sisters, Carolyn Albritton and husband Jack of Parker, TX, Frankie Stewart of Huntsville, AL and Mary Mercer and husband James of Winnfield, LA; four grandchildren, Crystal and Chris Futrell, Brent James and Dawn Shively and a host of nieces and nephews. Born in Keltys, Tx on November 4, 1913, she was 86. A memorial service was held on November 27 at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge with interment at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Tx on December 1. She is survived by a daughter, Leah Kristen Hursey of Baton Rouge; a son, Paul Bruce Hursey of Monroe; five grandchildren, Charles Stephen Hursey and Michael David Hursey, both of Lafayette, Andrew Karl Hursey, Paul Flynn Hursey and wife Lori McAdams Hursey, all of Baton Rouge, and Leigh Hursey Vaccaro and husband Michael Francis of Fairview, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Linda Flynn Hursey of Monroe; and a daughter-in-law, Colleen Hursey Dunstan of LeCompte. Mr. Carter, age 63 of North Carolina died at 4:20 p.m. Monday, November 29 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on June 14, 1936 in Rockingham County to Jack Dillard Carter and Caladonia Hutchins Carter. He was retired from the US Air Force where he served as a Technical Sergeant for 21 years, and served 2 terms in Vietnam. He was a member of the Fred D. Crever VFW Post #10485, the American Legion Post 55 and he was a Mason in Louisiana. He was of the Baptist Faith and was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Michael Carter who died in 1976. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin W. and Carrie Rogers, brothers Claude Rogers, Alvin Wallace Rogers, Jr. and Charles Rogers. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Leonard E. Survivors include one son, Roy Hatfield of Baton Rouge, LA; three daughters, Ann McCallum of St. Francisville, Becky Thornton of Wakefield, LA; and Rene Hutto of Winnfield, LA; one brother, Vergil E. Williams of Winnfield, LA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
