Officiating were Revs. Gary Wright and Robbie Cooke. Burial followed in the Zion Cemetery near Jordan Hill. Mrs. Horne, age 93 of Georgetown, LA died Friday, December 1, 2000 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. She was a Grant Parish native and a homemaker. She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, Connie B. Horne of Winnfield, LA and one daughter Jo H. Masters of Jonesboro, LA; three grandchildren: Connie Lewallen, Jeff Horne and Amy Ryans; two great- grandchildren: Cory Horne and Cole Home. Mrs. Riley, age 84 of Winnfield, LA died Sunday, December 3, 2000 in the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. She was a homemaker, a Winn Parish native and a member of the United Baptist Church. Survivors are one daughter, Angela Nunnally and her husband Earl of Richmond, VA; and two sisters, Henretta Keen and Jewell Broadway, both of Winnfield, LA. Mrs. Holden, age 85 of Dodson, LA died Wednesday, November 29, 2000 in the Parkview Care Center in Winnfield, LA. She was a Winn Parish native and a member of Dodson Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and worked as a maid for the Dodson High School for many years. Survivors are two sons, John L. Holden of Dodson, LA and Jerry C. Mr. Adams, age 91 of Sikes, LA died Wednesday, November 22, 2000 in the Parkview Care Center in Winnfield, LA. He was a retired forester, member of Hurricane Grove Baptist Church and a life long native of Sikes. He was preceded in death by his parents: Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Adams. Keith of Lake Charles, John D. Keith of Phoenix, AZ, and Joseph W. Keith of Chatham; 3 daughters, Shirley D. Heddon of Denham Springs, Louise G. Officiating will be Rev. Elton Gunter. Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery near Goldonna. Mr. Gough, age 71 of Goldonna, LA died Sunday December 3 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. He was a native of Jackson, TN., and was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce [Air Force] serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hope, AR and was a retired Sales manager for Prudential Life Insurance Co. Survivors are his wife, Margaret C. Gough of Goldonna, LA; two sons, Gregg Gough of Conway, AR. and Steve Gough of St. Louis, MO; one step-son, Mark Lewiston of Goldonna, LA; two step-daughters. [Submitter's Note: Photograph accompanies obituary.]******************* Joe Earl Spence Services for Joe Earl Spence, 55, was held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at Rose-Neath's Mansfield Church. Officiating was Father Andrew Comeaux of St. James Episcopal Church. He was assisted by Dr. William Crosby of First Baptist Church in Mansfield, Father Charles D. Krutz and Rev. Kenneth Tarver of Winnfield. Rev. Tarver was a fellow classmate and close friend to the deceased. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, La. Mr. Spence died Monday, November 27, 2000 at his residence due to heart complications. He was born in Orange, Texas and was a resident of Mansfield, La. Mr. Spence worked for Sunbeam Bakery for 17 years and retired from Specialty Oil Company as a purchasing agent. He attended Northwestern State University for two years and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. Mr. Spence and his family moved to Winnfield in the mid 1950's and he was a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School in 1963. He was a football player for Winnfield Senior High School in 1963. He was a football player for Winnfield under the leadership of Coach Newman and held dear to his heart those days of attending Winnfield Senior High. He was also active in other areas of school during those years. His fond memories of Winnfield Senior High led him to be very instrumental in organizing a second reunion for the graduating class of 1963. Fellow classmates attending the funeral were as follows: Delle Bates of Orange, Texas, Morris McQuidy of Baton Rouge, La., Theda Taylor Nugent and her husband, Lawrence Nugent of Pineville, La., Shirley Lasyone Knotts of Winnfield, La., and Rev. Kenneth Tarver of Winnfield, La. Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his parents, Joe D. and Myrtle Hitchcock Spence. Survivors are his wife, Charlotte Airhart Spence, Mansfield, La., daughter Elizabeth Ann Ersoft and husband Michael of Shreveport, La.; brother, Jimmy Spence of Conroe, Tx.; several nieces and nephews. He was a retired construction superintendent and former owner and operator of Westside Grocery at Winnfield, LA. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches, LA. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Ethel D. LaCaze and Dorothy F. Lacaze, and one son, John J. LaCaze. Nora was born May 18, 1939 in Sikes, LA to Machel and Bertha Mayes. A former member of Cenla Bass 'N' Gals, she was an avid fisher person and fished in several national tournaments. She was also an avid and successful deer hunter. Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Earl (Buddy) Scroggins, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Machel and Dan Thompson of Jacksonville, FL and Kristie and Steven Ward of Alexandria, LA; four grandchildren, Landon Ward, Matthew, Meisha and Mason Thompson, other relatives and friends. Service were held Sunday, December 17, 2000 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield, LA. He was a veteran and a chemical plant engineer. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery, in Calhoun under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. LA. Mr. Calhoun died near Ruston from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Calhoun was a former employee of Riverwood International for over 22 years, and an automobile dealer. He was also a former Ouachita Parish Police Jury Member, and during his term he served as the President. Mr. Calhoun was a member of Clarks Masonic Lodge #382 F & AM, Branson Lodge #587 AF & AM, Monroe Scottish Rite Bodies, the Monroe York Rite Bodies, and the Barak Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by parents H.M. and Jewell Calhoun, brother, Sherwood Calhoun, two sisters, Shirley Archibald and Florice Young, sister-in-law, Jean Calhoun and Betty Calhoun, brothers-in-law, Al Pilgram, Homer Young and Coster Archibald. R.D. was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
