She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winnfield, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Minden Garden Club. She was also a member of the Brown-Shield Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Minden. Funeral services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Homes. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at First United Methodist Church of Winnfield. Reverend Tim Lawson officiated. Burial was held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Old Minden Cemetery, Minden Louisiana. Survivors includes one daughter Shirley L. Walsh of Winnfield, LA; one son John F. Charles Benjamin Polk, age 78, resident of Joyce, LA passed away, November 28. 2003 at Parkview Nursing Home in Winnfield. He was a member of East Winnfield Baptist Church. He was a U.S. WW II Army Veteran and was the recipient of the ATO Medal, Eameto Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Polk. He was born in Pike County, Arkansas, son of the late Frances M. Haynes and the late Virginia Elliott Haynes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the World War II. He was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church at Jordan Hill, and was retired equipment operator for Lone Star Industries. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel, Winnfield, LA. Reverend Rayford Chandler and Reverend Willis Russell officiated. She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Birdie Dickson sang to Jesus all the way home when she went to meet her savior. She was a loving mother and grandmother to many. She loved her church and will be missed by all. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester Disotell and the late Willie (Henson) Disotell. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. Mr. Smith was employed in the oil industry as a salesman for many years. He enjoyed fishing. A rosary was prayed Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Martin and Castille Funeral Home in Scott. Mrs. Semon was educated at Winnfield High School. She was employed by the Federal Government at Barksdale AFB (La) and Patrick AFB (Fla) until her retirement in 1966. More recently, she was the retired owner of Big Econ Mobile Home Park in Orlando, Florida. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron of Sunset Chapter (Shreveport), and the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Mrs. Semon was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Gertrude Anderson Barton; her infant daughter, Doris Annette Tison; her first husband, S. E. "Shep" Tison; and her second husband, James F. Semon. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Tison Atkinson, and her husband, Jerry of Hewitt, Texas; step son, Phillip R.
