Mrs. Keckler was a native of Dodson, LA. She lived in Lake Charles for 50 years before moving to Alexandria. Mrs. Keckler was a graduate of Dodson High School. She was named the valedictorian of her class and served as the state president of the Louisiana 4-H Club. She graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston, LA. After graduation, she worked for the Farm Security Administration in St. Joseph, LA and was a teacher at Winnfield High School. She moved to Lake Charles, LA and was employed by the Cities Service Oil Company. At a later time she directed the Pre School at First Presbyterian Church, taught for the Calcasieu Parish School System and at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School. She was a long time devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Charles where she served as an Elder. She worked on many projects and committees, including Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, circle leader and in the women of the church. Mrs. Keckler was a charter member of the Homemakers in Home Economics club, a member of the Review Club and the AAUW. She volunteered in many organizations including the Literacy Council, where she taught adults to read. Mrs. Keckler moved to Alexandria in 1993 where she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Twentieth Century Book Club. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Keckler Rand and grandson, Richard White Rand Jr., both of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur S. Keckler; her parents, Alfred and Ida Wasson Mixon; her brothers, Alva (Jack), Carl, Joe J., and Charles Dan Mixon; her sisters, Bertha Mixon, Stovall, Clarice Mixon Patrick, Helen Mixon Curran, Mamie Mixon Simmons and Corrine Mixon Crawford. Malcolm Self officiating. He was 90 years old and a 69 year resident of Jackson Parish. He worked 42 years at the Paper Mill in Hodge where he retired in 1972 as Superintendent of Maintenance for the entire mill. He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Floyd H. Long Col. Floyd H. Long, 87, died Sunday, February 16, 2003, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born May 21, 1915, in Winn Parish, Louisiana. Floyd had a life-long love of education. It started when his father sent him off to college with $25 and told him, "That's all I have, do the best you can with it". And he did, by graduating from LSU in 1936 with a B.S. in Accounting, a Masters in Marketing and Business Management in 1938 and followed by an MBA from the Wharton School of Commerce and Finance in 1948. Col. Long was a thirty-one year career military officer in the Infantry and Logistics/Quartermaster branches of the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. His many military honors included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Clusters. Most of Floyd's post-military career was spent back in his home state, where he lived in the Greater New Orleans area. His dedication to education and youth advancement continued with his decade-plus service at Delgado College. He not only held an Assistant Professorship, but was asked to be the Executive Dean of the college's newly opened West Bank campus. Floyd was also very active in professional, community and business organizations. The Southeastern Conference of Jr. and Community Colleges, the Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Toastmasters and Rotary International knew him for his tireless support. He was awarded the "Civic Award-Service above Self" by the Rotary club in 1981. In 1998 he and his wife Margery moved to Little Rock to be closer to their daughter and her family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Margery Hixon Long; his daughter, Peggy Pierce and her husband Steve Pierce; his grandchildren Brian and Stephanie Pierce; as well as several nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Birdie Long; his brother United States Congressman Gillis W. Long; and his sister Doris L. Fletcher. The family will receive friends at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501-224-8300) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Shell, Dennis Shell and Denton Shell, all of Winnfield; three nieces and two nephews. Miss Shell graduated from Winnfield High School and earned her bachelor's degree in home economics from Louisiana Normal College, where she was a member of the Purple Jackets, and her master's degree from the University of Tennessee. She taught home economics in Kaplan, Gueydan and Dodson, and then became an assistant home demonstration agent with the LSU Agricultural Extension Service. She served as a home demonstration agent in Sabine, Red River and Jefferson Davis Parishes, and retired and returned to Winnfield in 1974. Miss Shell was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Irene Wood Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, the Orphanage Circle, and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Winn Parish Medical Center Senior Friends, the Extension Homemaker's Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Louisiana Association of Extension Home Economists. Burial was in Dry Prong Cemetery in Dry Prong, LA. Mrs. McCullough, 62, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Mrs. McCullough lived in Byram for nine years, coming from Pearl, MS. Mrs. McCullough was the property manager for United Church Homes in Pearl and was of the Church of Christ faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Smith and Annie Folden Smith; and two brothers, James R. Smith and Milton Andrew Smith. She is survived by her husband, Bob McCullough of Byram; two sons, Carlton Plunkett of Byram and Paul Plunkett of Raymond; one step-son, B. J. Aldridge of Houston, TX; two daughters, Becky Swilley of Byram and Tonya Folden of Winnfield, LA; one step daughter, Kelly Robinson of Plantersville, TX; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; one brother, Michael J. Smith of Quitman, LA and two sisters, Lena Smith McKenzie and Lillie Smith Simmons of Montgomery, LA. Pallbearers were: Paul Plunkett, Tony Plunkett, Brad Plunkett, Jason Plunkett, Carl Plunkett and Jonathan Brown.
