Adams were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27,200 [June 27,2000] in the Welcome Home Baptist Church of the Hudson Community, Dodson, LA; burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA. On December 20, 1914, Mr. Adams was born in Sikes, LA. His age was 85 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his father, N.G.W. Adams in 1936; his brother Leonard Adams in 1985; and his mother, Lena Adams 1986; and his wife Ruby Jordan Adams in February 2000. Bro. Bill Moore, pastor of Welcome Home and Bro. Wallace Ingles officiated. The musicians were Carolyn Addington at the organ, Janette Moore at the piano, and Ron Preston at the steel guitar. Mrs. Addington and Mr. Preston, grandson-in-law, did an instrumental of "Blessed Assurance". Barry Feriend, a nephew-in- law, sang "Thank You". Barry chose this song because it is appropriate for "Uncle Elzie". Ann Feriend, Elzie's niece, joined her husband in a duet "Stepping in the Light". Delton Carpenter sang "Arms of Love". Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Jean (Adams) Murphy and husband Claude of the Hudson Community; two granddaughters, Victoria Murphy, also of Hudson and Cathy (Murphy) Preston and husband Ron of Burlington, NC; one great grandson, Jonathan Preston of Burlington, NC; two brothers-in-law, Roy Jordan and wife Bettye, John Jordan and wife Jerline, all of Hudson; one sister-in-law, Ruth Adams, of Houston, TX and many nieces and nephews. The Deacon Board of Welcome Home Baptist Church were pallbearers- John Jordan, Jason Jordan, Vernon Carpenter, Wayne Roberts, Joe Shields and Kirk Miles. Honorary pallbearers-Marshall Gates, Marlon Smith, Judge Glen David Roberts, Judge H. L. Yelverton, Drew Adams, Glenwood Adams and Aswell Adams. His family and friends held very special places in his hart [heart] and we are sure there has been and will be wonderful reunions. Mrs. Cromlish, age 90 of Winnfield died Thursday, June 29, 2000 in the Parkview Care Center in Winnfield, LA. She was a former resident of Pittsburgh, PA, member of Bower Hill Community Presbyterian Church and a retired legal secretary. Survivors are one son, Raymond T. Cromlish of Lakewood, NJ; one daughter, Donna May of Winnfield, LA; 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was a Winn Parish native, member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church, served in Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday School and directed the children's choir and was an active member in the adult choir. She was a retired sales clerk. Ponds Benjamin Franklin Ponds, 76 of Fontana, CA died Sunday, July 9, 2000 in Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linca, CA following a brief illness. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2000 in Riverside National Cemetery with Rev. Odell Bishop and Rev. J. W. Ponds officiating. Mr. Ponds was buried with military honors. Arrangements were made under the direction of Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, CA. A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Ponds resided in Fontana for 40 years. He worked as a lumber clerk at Squires Lumber Co. in Colton, CA for 25 years. Before his retirement he served as Associate pastor at Pentecostal Country Church in Bloomington, CA for 15 years and was Sunday School Superintendent and Associate Pastor at Voice of Faith Ministries for 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborn Division in the European Theater. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Washington Ponds and Mary Allie New Ponds; and one brother, Elmo Raymond Ponds.
