He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in Pleasant Hill, La, in 1939 where he became a cook and served as a cook in the Army during World War II for seven years. He was an active member of the Keithville United Methodist Church where he served in many areas. Mr. Barnes retired from Kroehler Manufacturing Company and Selber Enterprises. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ruby Barnes, and two brothers, Ed and J.D. Barnes. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Sarah Magaiene (Maggie) Barnes of Keithville, La.; two daughters, Shirley Freeland and husband, Johnnie of Keithville, La, and Betty McAdoo and husband, David of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Susan McAdoo, Michael McAdoo, Bryan Freeland and Kathy Freeland Ratliff; great grandson, Michael Scott Freeland; and one sister, Juanita Gresham of Dodson, La. Bruce McGee and Rev. C.J. Haygood officiating. Interment followed at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Mr. Feltenberger, the son of the late Delbert and Jennie Wilson Feltenberger, was born in Rockland, PA on January 24, 1923. He died at his residence in Columbia on Thursday, July 12, 2001. He was a retired Maintenance Engineer Superintendent, and was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Ted and Clayton Feltenberger, and his sister, Kathryn Grinnell. He was a member, Deacon and Sunday School teacher of the Columbia Heights Baptist Church and was also an active member of the Barak Shrine, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch, VFW, and the military Order of the Purple Heart. He served his country in World War II as a Lieutenant and then Captain in the U. S. Army. He was wounded in service in France. He received the Congressional Medal of Honor, and was further honored to received the Purple Heart form Queen Elizabeth of England. Mr. Feltenberger not only loved his country, but also loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Most of all he loved his Lord. He never met anyone, stranger or friend without telling them, "God loves you, and so do I." Mr. Martin, age 84 of Goldonna, LA died Monday, July 16, 2001 in the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield. He was a Winn Parish native, member of Antioch Bible Way Church, owner of J.K. Martin Pulpwood, a member of the LA Forestry Association and was a school board member for Winn Parish for 20 years. He was an avid fisherman, loved gospel music and lived to help others. Martin of Goldonna, LA; three daughters, Mary Alice McBride of Goldonna, LA, Judy Martin James and Janet Martin Wyatt, both of Jonesboro, LA; one brother, T. W. He was a forester, co-owner of Martin Forest Products and Martin & Martin Trucking Co, member of La. Forestry Association, Ducks Unlimited, an avid supporter of Dixie Youth Baseball Association and Board member of LSAT. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Sabine State Bank, served as Winn Parish Police Juror for two terms, and a Winn Parish School Board Member for 14 years, member of Winnfield Kiwanis Club, was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his dogs. Survivors are his wife, Minnie Anderson Martin of Calvin, LA, one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tammy Martin of Calvin, LA; his mother, Lois Martin of Calvin; and four grandchildren; Meagan and Matthew Martin and Christin and Chuck Weeks. She was preceded in death by her husband Morris Crawford and a son, Stephen Crawford.********************** Obituaries, Winn Parish Enterprise, Winnfield, Louisiana, July 25, 2001, Page 7-B William "Bill" Elman Durham William "Bill" Elman Durham, 73, departed this life unexpectedly on the morning of July 20, 2001 in his home in Benbrook, Texas as he prepared for a business appointment. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001 in the Drawing Room of Thompson's, Harveson & Cole Funeral Home in Ft. Worth, Texas, with Dr. Charles McLaughlin officiating. Interment was in the Benbrook Cemetery, Benbrook, Texas, near the grave of his beloved son, John Lee Durham. Pallbearers were members of the Wisdom Class of Western Hills Baptist Church, of which Mr. Durham was a member. Bill, the son of Ozro Lee and Ruth McIlwain Durham, was born on August 29, 1928 at the home of his parents in the Hargis Community near Montgomery, LA. As a member of Hargis Baptist Church, his faith in God grew even as a young boy and he continued to serve the Lord throughout his lifetime. He graduated from Verda High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he was a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society. He served our country in the U.S. Army in the Infantry and the Army Corps in WWII and was in Japan during our Army's occupation there. He taught public school in Louisiana and served as County Agent with the Agricultural Department before commencing a Federal Civil Service Career, which included service in the Farmers Home Administration, Veterans Administration and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He served in Shreveport, LA, Lubbock, TX, Washington, D.C., and finally in the Fort Worth area, where he retired from HUD in 1983 after 32 years of service. During his career, he received the Outstanding Performance Award, Certificate of Special Achievement and High Quality Performance Award. He was President of the Federal Business Association (FBA), a member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas/Fort Worth Federal Executive Board and Chairman of the FEB Consumer Affairs Committee. Upon retirement, he formed a private appraisal business in Fort Worth, which thrived under the leadership of him and his son, William Fannin Durham. He also served as staff appraiser/inspector for the Charles F. Curry Company and Fort Worth Mortgage Corporation. He published The Durham Report, a monthly sales data report, for 12 years. He was a Life Member of the Appraisal Institute and was a State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser. Mr. Durham was a member of the Western Hills Baptist Church and served on its Insurance Committee, Building and Grounds Committee and Personnel Committee, as well as doing missionary work in Mexico. He belonged to the Optimist Club and received the Optimist of the Year award from the Optimist International. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marcene Durham Purgerson and his son, John Lee Durham. She was a homemaker, had worked for Continental Can in Hodge for many years and had retired from Manville and Riverwood Corp. after many years as a millworker. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. Vines, son Jerry Vines and one granddaughter and one great-grandson. She is survived by three sons, B.L. Vines, Loyd E. Vines and Barron J.
