Z. (Joe Pete) Booker Mr. Booker was born July 25, 1917, in Jackson Parish. He was well- known to the whole Winnfield area by the name Joe Pete, the Minute Man because Mr. Booker says it only take a minute to do whatever. Service were at 1 p.m. at the Oak Ridge B.C. in Calvin, LA where Pastor Rodrick Baptiste is the Church Pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Booker worked for the US Forest Service 15 years, Carey Salt Mine and for Brewton Chipper Mill until he retired. He departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 5:15 a.m. at the VA Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, four daughters, Catherine Jones of Stockton, CA, Gustavia Roy of Oakland, CA, Dora Swiney of Tracy, CA and Deloris Booker of Oakland, CA; and one son, Willie Ray Booker of Oakland, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Hobdy Booker, one son, Wesley Mac Booker, his parents, Nonnie and Wesley Booker; and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Mae Alexander. Mr. Thomas died at his residence in Pineville on Wednesday, June 26 after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 9, 1930 in Atlanta, Louisiana and was a 1948 graduate of Winnfield High School and attended LSU. He retired from Louisiana Intrastate Gas Company, Sunland Construction, and was past owner of The Trophy Shoppe in Columbia, La. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou McCloy Thomas, parents K. A. Thomas and Virginia Smith Thomas, and his brother Arthur "Buddy" Thomas. He was a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and Northwestern State University. He is retired from the Internal Revenue Service and the Louisiana National Guard. He served in the Army of Occupation of Japan, W.W.II. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willie Pearl Martin Swilley; his parents, Wiley Austin Swilley, Sr. and Irene O'Neal Swilley; and his brother, W.A. Mrs. Spangler was a long-time member of Midway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Spangler; one son, Bobby Ray Spangler; her parents, Lela Eldridge Dark and Howard Dark; four brothers, Alton Dark, Allon Dark, J.S. Dark and Bermie Dark; and one grandson, Randy Myers. Memorials can be given to the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Calvin, LA and a member of the Kisatchie Quilting Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sadie Weeks, and one son, Rowland Weeks. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Vickie Weeks of Winnfield, LA; one daughter, Maxine Johnston of Winnfield, LA; one brother, Buddy Bates of Winnfield, LA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Shelton, age 98 of Shreveport, LA died Sunday, July 28, 2002 in the Heritage Manor in Bossier City, LA. She was born in Calvin, LA to James P. and Lou Carter Maxey, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Bossier City, LA. Survivors are two sons, Jack and Jeraline Shelton and Joe and Ann Shelton, all of Winnfield, LA; one daughter, Mary Lou Boone and husband Kerry of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren, David Boone, Scott Shelton, Dianna Shelton, Rodney Shelton and Ginger Mueller; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Maxey of Pineville, LA and Alberta Maxey of Columbia, SC.
