Mr. Price, age 80 of Calvin, LA died Sunday, February 25, 2001 in the Parkview Care Center in Winnfield. He was a LaSalle Parish native, a Veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II. Battles include Bismarck, Archipelago, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines and Western Pacific. He received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, One Service Stripe and Four Overseas Service Bars. Mrs. Harrell, age 83 of Winnfield, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Winnfield a native of Texas, was a pastor's wife and helped pioneer seven churches. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Bobby Carpenter and Janice and Jimmy Vail, all of Winnfield, LA; one son-in-law, Glen Blevins of Port Lavaca, TX; one brother, Ronald Squyres of Port Lavaca, TX; one sister, Freda Jones of Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. Officiating was Dr. Calvin Phelps and interment was in the Garden of Memories. Mrs. Mercer, age 98 of Winnfield, LA died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 in the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield. She was born in Wheeling, LA on February 3, 1903. She was a homemaker and worked assisting her husband, P. Hugh Mercer who was the Winnfield Postmaster. S he and Mrs. Mercer were the owners and operators of the Goat Castle, a restaurant and hotel in Winnfield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Ruth Dean Sunday School Class, also a member of the WMU and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 78 years and in 1937 was worthy matron. She was a Goldstar Mother of the American Legion. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Binion and Doris Jean Sikes of Winnfield, LA; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, P. Hugh Mercer, one son, Sonny Mercer and one daughter, Vee Hudson. Mr. Collins, age 68 of Stonewall, LA died Sunday, March 11, 2001 following a lengthy illness (in Willis Knighton Pierremont Health Center in Shreveport, LA). He was born in Atlanta, LA on October 2, 1932. He was a veteran of Korean War, served as a school teacher and principal in both Winn and DeSoto parishes and also in Alaska. He taught at Southeastern State University and served as a supervisor in the central office of the DeSoto Parish school system. In addition, Mr. Collins built numerous houses and several subdivisions throughout north Louisiana. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His stepfather, Rodney Alan White, Sr. preceded him in death last year. Justen accepted Jehovah at an early age and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Winnfield, LaPlace, and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He received his early education in the Winn Parish, Caddo Parish. Pine Bluff, and St. John The Baptist Parish schools and was a seventh-grader at Leon Godchaux Junior High School in Reserve, Louisiana. Justen was an honor student involved in many extra-curricular activities. He was a red-ribbon winner at the 4-H Food Focus Contest and was recently chosen to represent his school at the 4-H Camp. He placed at his school's science fair and went on to compete at the parish level. In addition, he received first place honors at his school's Social Studies Fair. Justen advanced to the parish fair where he placed second, and went on to compete in the regionals at Nichols State University. He was an active member of the Chess, Computer, French, and Spanish clubs. He was a former Karate student and excelled in his role as teammate of the Noah Gators and the Leon Godchaux football team. He died February 24, 2001 in Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville, LA after a lengthy illness. Mr. Jones was a member and a deacon at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Lena Cooper Jones in February 1974. He was a retired Planer Operator. Spangler, age 60, a resident of Elephant Butte, NM since 1994, passed away on March 13, 2001 at Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth of Consequences, New Mexico. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from New Mexico State University and his Master's Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State University. He was a member of the Special Forces Association, the Purple Heart Association; DAV; Elephant Butte VFW Post #1389; Masonic Lodge #8 A.F.& AM. in Silver City, NM; Scottish Rite; Shriners; Ballard Abyad; Life member of the Good Sam's Club and the Sierra Good Sam's; and was one of the founding members of the Church at the Butte in Elephant Butte, NM. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie M. Viewing was held on Thursday, March 15, 2001 from 4:30 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of French Mortuary (TorC, NM) and services were conducted on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Butte (Elephant Butte) with Rev. Robert Rachuig, Rev. Jim Mixon and Mr. Jerry Raincy officiating. Burial was held on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX with full military honors. Burial was in Transport Cemetery at Dodson, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield. Mrs. Lowery, age 64 of Dodson, LA died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in the St. Frances Medical Center in Monroe, LA. She was a native of Ottawa, KA and a member of Joyce Assembly of God Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors are her husband Billy Ray Lowery of Dodson, LA; two daughters, Linda Sanders of Dodson, LA and Barbara Polk of West Monroe, LA; one sister, Evelyn Cantrell of Modesta, CA; one brother, Robert Garber of Oila, KA; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Wade Hamilton Lowery; two brothers, Clarence Garber Jr. and Harold Garber; and by her mother, Daisy Wiles. Pallbearers were: Lyndale Lowery, Donnie Lowery, James McNaughton, Kerry McNaughton, Darren Fitzgerald and Lynn James.
