Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield. Mrs. Reid, 86, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. She was retired from the Winn Parish Health Unit and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield for 45 years. She was active in the Elizabeth Scott Circle and Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Muriel Newman Eagles, her husband, Alonzo Reid, and great-grandson Calab James. Graveside services were in Canton Cemetery. A native of Winnfield, LA, Mr. Smith had lived in Baton Rouge for over 50 years before moving to Madison County Nursing Home in 2002. He attended Tulane and LSU where he was a member of the LSU Varsity Tennis Team and a member of The Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. Smith was an avid golfer and a lifelong fan of LSU. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. Mr. Smith was married to Mary Belle Smith, who died in December 2003, for 64 years. He was a member of Broadmoore Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. Survivors include: daughter, Anne S. Haley and her husband, Charles W. Canton; brother, Leonard A. Smith of Austin, Texas; sister, Elaine S. JoAnn's family remembers her as a wonderful Mama and cook who loved children and animals- "any furry beast," and horseback riding. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mayflower where she was a member of the Choir and loved singing solos. JoAnn had been a 4-H leader for 20 years in both Arkansas and Louisiana.
