Burial was in Bolton Teagle Cemetery near Winnfield, LA. Mrs. Lowe, age 87 of Calvin, LA died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 in the Autumn Leaves Nursing Home, Winnfield, LA. She was married to the late Hershel Lowe for 57 years, was a member of First Baptist Church, Calvin, owned and operated Lowes Grocery in Calvin and raised cattle and timber. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Milam Ray and Sue Lowe of Calvin, LA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Chuck Wood of Baton Rouge, LA, Martha and Arthur Killian of Floriene, LA and Melinda and Dwaine Garrett of Calvin, LA; three brothers, Bob Carpenter, Sam Carpenter and Clifford Carpenter, all of Calvin, LA; two sisters, Helen Reed of Winnfield, LA and Erline Martin of Calvin, LA; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great- great grandchildren. Mr. Wood, age 86 of Winnfield, LA died Sunday, November 3, 2002 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. He was a Winnfield native, member of First Baptist Church, retired from City of Winnfield and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Aircorp and served in World War II. Survivors are his wife, Juanita Graham Wood of Winnfield, LA; two sons, Lee L. Howard, Jr. Edward B. Howard, Jr., age 82 of Houston, TX died Tuesday, October 22, 2002. He was born in Winnfield, Louisiana June 9, 1920 to Edward Sr. and Maude Howard. He served in the Army during World War II, was a member of Houston Northwest Baptist Church and served as Deacon. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Howard of 56 years, daughter Kay Hennelly and husband Jim; son Don Howard, two grandchildren, Julie and Christopher; sister Margaret Burnam; brother Max Howard; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Howard. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2002 at Klein Funeral Home. Burial was in the Harmony Grove Cemetery, Dodson, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA. Mrs. Kyle, age 86 of Winnfield, LA died October 9, 2002 in her residence. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Dodson, LA, retired from Winn Parish Schools with 39 years and then taught in Waskom, TX for 9 years. She was a Silver Sister member of ADK and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Kyle received a B.A. from Louisiana Tech and a Masters plus thirty from Northwestern in Natchitoches. She was also a certified Special Ed Teacher. She was preceded in death by husband Troy Lee Kelly and Rev. Dan Kyle; a daughter, Annette Carpenter; and a sister, Willie Dee McFadden. Survivors are one sister, Edna Mae Parker of Winnfield, LA; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Albritton of Parker, TX, Frankie Stewart of Huntsville, AL and Mary and James Mercer of Winnfield; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were: Joe Collins, Richard McManus, David Shepherd, Ronnie Shively, David Taylor and Mike Woeber.************************ Rush Dewitt Parker Rush Dewitt Parker, 83, of Urania, LA died November 10, 2002 in Citizens Medical Center, Columbia, LA. He was born January 8, 1919 to the union of Myron B. and Elizabeth Gregory Parker, at Sikes, LA. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rush Aliene Parker, his parents and a sister, Marjorie Rushing. Rush retired as postmaster in Urania in 1984. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Charles F. Buck Masonic Lodge, Urania. He was a member of Pinehill Baptist Church and served as deacon for 30 years. Services were held on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 11 am. in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA. Officiating were Revs. Ed Smith, B. G. Dyess and Ron Brady. Interment followed in Sikes Cemetery, Sikes, LA. He was a retired principal of Winnfield Middle School and a graduate of Jena High School. He received his B.S. from LSU in Baton Rouge and his Masters from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Breithaupt. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lorean Breithaupt of Jena, LA; one sister, Carolyn Paul of Jena, LA; one brother, Glen Breithaupt of Baton Rouge, LA; three nieces, one nephew and four great nephews. Mr. Porter, age 62 of Winnfield, LA died Monday, November 18, 2002 in the Rapides Regional Medical Center. He was a Winnfield native, member of Old Union Baptist Church, a farmer and an avid gardener. He worked as a millwright for 32 years, served on Democratic Executive Committee for Winn Parish, was a volunteer firefighter with the Joyce/Pleasant Hill Station and voted as the Fire Fighter of Year 2002 for his devotion to service, served in the National Guard, was co-owner of Porters Bushy Creek Farm and Nursery and did freelance landscaping. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josie Porter. Survivors include his wife, LaWanda S. Porter of Winnfield, LA; one son, Tommy Porter of Winnfield; two daughters, Paula Elizabeth Katz and husband Andrew of Alexandria, LA and Julie Faye Barton and her husband Clyde Jr. of Winnfield; one brother, Gene Stratton Porter of Winnfield, LA; two sisters, Mary Ann Manuel of Ruston, LA and Janice Williams of Arkansas; and five grandchildren: Justin Cole Barton, Madelyn Jade Barton, Madison Paige Porter, Josie Alison Katz and Leslie Faith Katz.
