Friends may express messages of condolence online by visiting www.southemfuneralhome.com********************** Amy Halford by Sherri Taylor, Enterprise News Editor On Tuesday, November 22, Amy Halford, 34, was killed in a one-vehicle accident on LA 1236 where it intesects with Highway 34. Amy drove a 2000 International Tractor for RCA Trucking and was on the job when the accident occurred. She lived in Jonesboro and had been a long time employee for RCA. The Louisiana State Police report that the accident is still under investigation. There seems to have been no reason for Amy to run off the road and into a tree that caused her rig to catch fire. Troopers are looking for anyone who might have seen anything and help them understand exactly what happened to Amy. "Amy was one of our best drivers," said staff members at RCA. "She was loved by us all. She was one who constantly made the rest of us laugh. She seemed to always be happy and she loved her job. We will miss her more than we can say." It was unique to see such a tiny woman drive up into her yard and get down out of that huge tractor trailer rig she loved driving. At one time, she drove cross-country but gave it up to be close to her nephews and nieces who meant the world to her. No, I didn't know Amy well, even though she lived across the street from me. Like most neighbors these days, we just waved and said hello when we met. Amy visited with me one day and I learned some things. Her nieces and nephews were her priority - almost like her own children. Amy was her own person: She loved the freedom of the road. She drove mostly from Joyce near Winnfield to Campti mill or to Bastrop. She made trips to mills nearby but she wanted to be home with her family during her off hours. She told me the story of driving into Los Angeles on her first trip to California. Yes, the traffic was terrible, but Amy was made of tough material and before long it was old hat for her to push that rig into heavy traffic. She said she grew up a tomboy. That's easy to believe. Amy could take care of herself and she also took care of others in need whenever possible. Amy told me she was saving money to buy a house soon. Odds are that money will now help her nieces and nephews have a better life and possibly a good education. Amy loved her work. She was happy to get up in the mornings, crank that rig, and start making her routes carrying chips from one mill to another. Though her life was cut short, everyone she met said she would never be forgotten by those who knew and loved her. Amy was preceded in death by her sister April Morrow. She is survived by her parents Ralph and Betty Morrow of Hodge, Louisiana; three sisters: Angela Kujawa of Ruston, Louisiana, Tammy Harrell and husband David of Jonesboro, Louisiana and Michelle Layfield and husband Dale of Weston, Louisiana. She also leaves behind one brother Michael Morrow of Hodge, Louisiana. Amy is survived by her eight nephews and two nieces. She leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Amy Halford, 34, weighed only 98 pounds, but she could handle a big rig with the best of them. She passed away Tuesday, November 22, doing the job she loved.
