Mother Jurlean Brinson-Riser was born July 31, 1912 to the late Brother Henry and Sister Nancy Brinson, in Florida. Eleven children were born to this union. Three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. She departed this life, Saturday, September 20, 2003 at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Winn Parish Medical Center, Winnfie!d, Louisiana. Mother Riser was married to the late Mr. Falure Garner for a short period of time; no children were born to this union. She later united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Fred Jackson. After many years of marriage and after the passing of Mr. Jackson, she married Mr. Ottris Riser. Mother Jackson accepted Christ at an early age. Upon her arrival in Winnfield she united with the Morning Star Baptist Church. In later years she united with the Greater Neal Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Dr. Harold served in the Sewing Circle and on the Mothers Board. Mother Jackson remained faithful until her health failed. As a young woman, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in her flowerbeds and vegetable garden, reading her bible and going to church. Mother Riser leaves to cherish her memory: Her husband, Ottris Riser, Winnfield, LA; two sisters, Eula Hill, Corpus Christi, TX and Rosie Swafford, Winnfield, LA; one brother, R.J. Brinson, Winnfield, LA; one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews. other relatives, saints and friends. His aunt Angela Leslie, son, Jared May and daughter Amber Leslie. Justin was such a bright, smart and happy young teenager and avid paintball participant. He and his sisters, Alyssa, Kimberly and cousin Amber, began spending two special weeks with his grandparents in Winnfield. Through organ do nation young Justin will live on, thanks to his parents. Justin's dream was to join a Special Forces military unit in his future. Young Justin is now with Jesus. He will become a mighty warrior with the angels. The Lord is a warrior; yes, the Lord is His name-Exodus 15:3. Mr. Mallard, age 96 of Winnfield died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. Mr. Mallard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. James and Ruby Mallard came to Winnfield and opened Farr Auto Supply Co. in September of 1948, with Sid and Ina Farr. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He is survived by his faithful employee, Marie Pimpleton who worked for him from 1991 until 2003. She was a retired sales clerk. Her husband of 63 years, Leroy Shively, her parents and numerous siblings preceded Mrs. Shively in death. Reverends Nicholas Verrette and Robert Leach officiated. Interment followed in the Cypress Creek Cemetery under the supervision of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield. Olan passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield after a lengthy illness. He was born in the Cypress Creek community on June 26, 1921. After serving in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, Olan began a career as a pipeline engineer that spanned five decades. He helped construct pipelines in approximately half the continental United States, England and Panama. He was especially proud of having engineered the most difficult stretches of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Olan was a lifelong member of the Cypress Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lamar Jones, his parents Wiley and Minnie Caskey Jones and three brothers, Durwood, Waymon and Delbert Jones. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Laura Lillian Scoggins Jones of Dodson; three sons, Danny L. Jones and wife Sarah of West Monroe, Larry L. Jones and wife Patsy of Monroe, and Terry L. Jones and wife Carol of West Monroe. Olan was lovingly known as "Pop" to his eight grandchildren: David Jones and wife Sherry, Mason Jones, Clay Chandler and wife Emily; Sarah Chandler, Ben Jones, Mary Jones, Laura Jones and Arnie Jones. He had two great grandsons, Ryan and Austin Jones. Olan is also survived by two sisters, Earline Driskill of Tyler, TX, and Laverne Copeland and husband Preston of Dodson, LA; and one brother, Rodger Jones and wife Shirley of Winnfield. Mr. Williams was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Williams of Winnfield, LA; and seven grandchildren.************************ Norman J. (J.C.) Thompson Norman J. (J. C.) Thompson died in his home at Pahrump, Nevada, on September 28, 2003, at the age of 84. Mr. Thompson was born to Jesse Franklin and Rosa Delilah (Adams) Thompson on July 6, 1919, in Sikes, Louisiana. "Tommy" retired in 1958, from the US Army after 21 years of service that spanned WWII and the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before retiring as a M/Sgt. After his military retirement, Mr. Thompson found a rewarding career teaching and counseling for the Bossier Parish School Board. He retired from the Bossier Parish Schools of Louisiana in 1983, and spent the next several years "RVing" full time with his wife. His family was always the most important thing to Tommy. He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Gloria Jean Thompson, his daughter Linda (Mrs. James L. Small); his daughter Judy (Mrs. Richard D. Derrickson); three grandchildren: Daniel Small, Susan Littrell, and Melissa Horacek; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Mattison and Gavin Horacek. He is also survived by one sister, Ottice Forrest, who lives in Sikes, Louisiana. Tommy was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Misty Horacek and Kristi Lynn Mattison. In accordance with Mr. Thompson's wishes, there will be a private ceremony for immediate family held later. He was born May 19, 1912 at Packton; the son of Ben Elbert Melton and Viola E. Howell; the grandson of Elbert M. Melton/Laura Tyson and Robert F. Howell/Frances Hooper. After he married Fannie M. Riley of Winn Parish on Nov. 17, 1933, he moved to Sharkey, Co., Miss and lived there until his death. He retired as the manager of Realty Plantation at Rolling Fork. He was a Mason, a member of Deer creek Lodge No. 356 Scottish Rite, a Free Mason, a Shriner, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Cary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley McFate; a brother, Lindley M. Melton; and two sisters, Charlotte C. McFarland and Mary T. Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Fannie Riley Melton of Onward; one son, Denon Melton of Onward; one daughter, Diane Clements of Ridgeland; three sisters, Nancy Sledge of Metairie, LA, Fannie Coleman of Olla, LA and Bobby Jean Tullos of Winnfield; a brother, Phillip Melton of Salem, SD; and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Heath, age 57 of Winnfield, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 in Winnfield. He was a native of Calhoun, La., graduate of LSU as a Forester, a member of the First United Methodist Church, received an education degree from NSU and taught in Winn and Grant school systems, presently employed at the Montgomery High School, a member of Cedar Bluff Hunting Club and was a coach and umpire with the Dixie Youth Softball program for many years. He was a certified Emergency Medical Tech. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran Armstrong Heath. She passed away Saturday, October 25, 2003 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Winnfield, Louisiana. She was a member of South Winnfield Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Ms. Lancaster is survived by her three daughters, Jeannette Carpenter and husband Donald of Calvin, Louisiana, Janice Russo and husband Pat of Metairie, Louisiana, and Lana Blake and husband Ricky of Winnfield, Louisiana; one son, Michael Lancaster and wife Lauren of West Monroe, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Tommy Longino and wife Sara of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Sylvia Ambrose of Killeen, Texas.
