Burial was in the Jordan Hill Cemetery near Winnfield, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield. Mrs. Bartley, age 91 of Winnfield, LA died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, Walter T. Bartley of Atlanta, LA; two daughters, Mary Alice Mercer of Winnfield, LA and Melba Bartley of Alexandria, LA; one sister, Berttie Green of Winnfield, LA; eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Vince Bartley, Tom Gongre, Justin Gongre, Joseph Mercer, Jason Mercer and Edward Bartley.*********************** Grady Jones Grady Jones, age 92 years and 3 months, went home to be with our Lord August 31, 2002 at 11:05 p.m. Services was held at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, September 3 at 11 a.m. Revs. Author Robinson and Bill Walker officiated. Burial was in the Cypress Creek Cemetery under the direction of Southern. Grady was a resident of Parkview Care Center but home was always in Dodson, where he raised his family. He was a retired puplwooder [pulpwooder] and spent his later years enjoying his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grady was a member or Joyce Assembly of God Church. He was honored to be baptized with three generations of his family, (Grady, Bo and several of his grandchildren) in October 1994. Grady was greeted into the portals of heaven by his first wife, Edna Deese Jones, one son, Roy Junior Jones, one daughter, Jeraldine Jones, his second wife Ruby White Jones, his parents and one sister. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Loise and Meril Walker of Andrews, TX, Jackie and Ronnie Carpenter of Dodson, LA and Judy and Jud Campbell of Dodson, LA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tolbert "Bo" and Sara Jones of Dodson, LA and John and Peggy Jones of Winnfield, LA; two step-daughters, Audrey Taylor of Natchitoches, LA and Janette Dubois of Martin, LA; and one step-son, Buddy White of Toledo Bend, LA. Mrs. Long, age 99 of Shreveport, La. died Friday, September 6, 2002 at her residence in Shreveport. She was a member of the Mangum United Methodist Church in Shreveport, a graduate of Silman College in Clinton, La. and received her Masters Degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. She taught in the Winn Parish School System from 1922 to 1963. Great grandsons served as pallbearers.*********************** Earl D. Mercer Rev. Earl D. Mercer, 77, of Monroe passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was born in Winnfield September 7, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mercer who preceded him in death. A memorial celebration service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home Chapel, 72000 Desaird Street in Monroe. Officiating will be Dr. A. Randy McGee, assisted by Revs. Clarence Powell and Marc Greene. Interment will follow in Mount Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery near Spearsville, LA. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe and from 1 p.m. until the service begins at the Chapel. He preached his first sermon on Father's Day, 1943 and was ordained by Winnfield First Baptist Church on February 6, 1944. A graduate of Louisiana College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he pastored churches in Winn, LaSalle, Rapides, Livingston, Sabine and Calcasieu parishes. January 1, 1963, he resigned after more than 10 years as the first pastor of Twelfth Street Baptist Church in Lake Charles to join the staff of the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe where he served 28 years as Director of Public Relations. Following retirement, he served over six years as part time director of church relations for Louisiana College in Pineville where in 1988 he was named Distinguished Alumnus. During his ministry, he had the opportunity to speak in more than 625 Louisiana Baptist churches and served 13 interim pastorates in Northeast Louisiana churches. He was a member of Monroe First Baptist Church. He also was a member of Monroe Kiwanis Club of four decades. Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Rockett whom he married 55 years ago on June 7, 1947; a son, David K. Mercer of Monroe; a daughter, Rachel Mercer Wiggins of Monroe; two grandchildren, Jeremy T. Wiggins of West Monroe and Amanda Wiggins Brown, her husband Christian Brown and "Sweet Pea" of Sterlington; two brothers, W. Worsham, Sr. Funeral services for Joseph Lane Worsham, Sr., 84, were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2002 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Dr. Clint Davis and Bro. Al Richardson. Burial followed in Centuries Memorial Park. Mr. Worsham was born in Verda, La. on August 13, 1918. He passed away in Shreveport Friday, September 6, 2002 after a lengthy illness. He was a retired carpenter and was in bridge construction for many years with Massman Construction Company. He served his country during WWII in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy Seabees. Mr. Worsham also served as the state commander of the Louisiana Seabee Association, was a charter member of the Haynes Avenue Baptist Church where he was deacon emeritus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Addie Pool Worsham, brother, Herbert Murphy Worsham and sister, Jewel Worsham Davison. Graveside services were held at Old Union Cemetery in rural Winn Parish. Mr. Collins was born on November 11, 1921 in Winn Parish, LA and died on Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Shreveport after a sudden illness. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, enlisting during WWII and then attended Northwestern College in Natchitoches, LA for two years after the war, where he met and married Leta Mildred Munnerlyn in 1948. He soon was hired by an advance surveying team for an oil company and worked all over west Texas during the oil boom. He returned to Louisiana in 1952 and worked for 30 years for Universal Oil Products in Blanchard, LA retiring as a shift supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lanier Patton Collins of Winn Parish, his sister, Katherine Collins Moore of Weston, LA, an infant brother and his granddaughter Lilianna Collins. Survivors include his four children, Leta and husband John Thomas of Hallsville, TX, Janet and husband Carl Pauley of Houston, TX; Debra and husband Michael Spearman of Vivian, LA; and Ronald and wife JoAnn Collins of Bryan, TX; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brother Malcolm and his wife Earline Collins of Winnfield; LA, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband--Rev. Walter Prichard, who is retired from the ministry in the Church of the Nazarene and from Kay's Supermarket. He was a Winnfield native, Veteran of World War II, member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from Riverwood Forest Products Survivors include his wife, Ethel Aimsworth Riley of Winnfield two daughters, Beverly Parker and Pam Riley, both of Winnfield; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Burial will be in Old Antioch Cemetery near Brewton's Mill under direction of Southern Funeral Home, Jonesboro, LA. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4 to 9 p.m and Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of services. Mrs. Sevier, age 90, died Tuesday, September 24, 2002 in the Jackson Parish Hospital after a long illness. Survivors include 1 son, Silas Rowe, Jr. of Saline, LA; 3 daughters, Maudine Ferguson Dodson and husband, Bobby of Jonesboro, Gloria Hutto and husband Lamar of Dodson, Ruth Caskey and husband Huey of Goldonna, 1 son-in-law, Myron Mooney of Goldonna; 23 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucille Mooney; son-in-law, Johnny Ferguson and 3 brothers.
