Funeral services for Mr. Anders will be held 10AM Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield with Reverend Tim Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Anders was a native of Jena, Louisiana and graduated from Jena High School where he played on the basketball team that went to the 1930 National Championship Tournament held in Chicago IL. He was a graduate Louisiana State University. Mr. Anders moved to Winnfield, Louisiana in 1941 and was elected as Winn Parish Clerk of Court in May of 1964. On December 2, 1981 the Winn Parish Clerk of Court's office was recognized as one of the best organized and most efficient offices in the state his office frequently returned money to the Winn Parish Police Jury. Mr. Anders retired from that office in 1984 and was a resident of Winnfield until 2004 when he moved to Nederland. Texas to be near his daughter. He was the son of the late Clinton Lee Bates and the late Ethel (Canerday) Bates. Mr. Bates was also preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Merle Bates; and sister, Bernice Weeks. Mr. Bates was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Winn Parish Cattleman Association. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University and was a member of the 1949-1950 Gulfstates Conference Championship Basketball Team. Mr. Bates was a basketball coach, teacher, principal and retired as Assistant Superintendant of Schools from the Winn Parish School Board. He is survived by his wife Billie Ann Bates; two sons: Larry Bates and his wife Donna of Mannford, OK; Steve Bates and his wife Meredith of Winnfield; and four grandchildren: Ryan, Caitlin, Andrew, and Thomas Bates. "Red" Turner, age 83, of Winnfield, La., passed away Friday, January 27, 2006, at his residence in Winnfield, La. He was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Turner was also an avid hunter and a member of the Dodson Road and White Rock Hunting Clubs. He was also a member of the Carpenter's Local #1811 Union. He was the son of the late Buck Turner and the late Bertha (Smith) Turner. He is survived by his wife Maudie (Hogan) Turner of Winnfield, La.; two Sons, Harvey Turner and wife Joann of Winnfield, La. Mike Turner and wife Jan of West Monroe, La. one Brother, Dewey B. Turner and wife Audna of Minden, La. seven grandchildren McKae Dietrich of Orlando, FL Beth Turner of Winnfield, La. Sara Turner of Winnfield, La Jason Turner and wife Henrietta of Winnfield, La. David Turner and wife Melody of Winnfield, La. Alan Turner of Winnfield, La Chad Allen and wife Candice of West Monroe, La. and one great- grandchild Mandilyn Allen of West Monroe, La. Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, La., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2006 and from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2006. Funeral services will be held at Southern Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2006 , with Rev. Bob Braly and Chaplain Clyde Grammon officiating. "Skeet" Wilson, Jr., age 50, of Winnfield, La., passed away Friday, January 13, 2006, at the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield, La. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for 30 years. Mr. Wilson also served as an Auxiliary Sheriff's Deputy for the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office until 1998. Those who knew him, his kindness, and his willingness to always help others, will never forget him. Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Marrion H. Wilson, Sr. and the late Martha (Zuber) Wilson. Mr. Wilson was also preceded in death by three sisters; a brother; and a special aunt, Sue Zuber Ehrhard. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, JoAnn (Bell) Wilson of Winnfield, La.; Three Daughters, April Jones and husband Jeffery of Sikes, La. Jennifer Slayter and husband Brandon of Winnfield, La.
