Mr. Purser was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield and attended Northwestern State University where he lettered in football. He is a graduate of University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Mr. Purser was regional director of Region 6 and Huey P. Long Vo Tech School. He was a past president of Winnfield Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Purser was a U. S. Navy Veteran. Mr. Purser is the son of the late Paul Raymond Purser and the late Irma Llaine Hendrix Purser. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Dr. R. L. "Cotton" Purser and by a sister: Betty Joe Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jane C. Purser, three sons: Paul Purser and his wife Rosanne of Winnsboro, Donald Purser and his wife Leah of Madison, Ms., Matt Purser and his wife Tracy of Allen, Tx.; one daughter: Pamela Gunter and her husband Richmond of Lafayette; six grandchildren: Rich, Donovan, Allie, Logan, Mitchell, and Megan. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield with Reverend Danny Keyes officiating and under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Friends may visit with the family in their home at 1512 Maple St. in Winnfield on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Rotary Club of Winnfield at P.O. Box 350 of Winnfield, La 71483. ===== Willie Carter White (August 29, 1915 - January 6, 2007) Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield Mrs. Willie Carter White, age 91 of Stonewall, passed away, Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Christus Schumpert-Highland Hospital. Mrs. White is the daughter of the late Willie Wesley Carter and the late Minnie Goleman Carter Moffett. She is a native of Sikes, Louisiana and a member of Centerpoint Baptist Church near Jonesboro. Mrs. white was also preceded in death by her husband James Howard White and by a sister Fern Prestridge. Mrs. White is survived by her son James Henry White of Williana, La.; a daughter: Barbara Jo Self and her husband Bobby of Stonewall, La., six grandchildren: Bobby L. Self, Jr., Donna Weldon, Alan Self, Laurie Self, Jonathan White, and Nicole White Christo; nine great grandchildren: Michele Weldon, Ryan Self, Davis Self, Jordan Self, Madison Self, Lee Hedgepeth, Ryan McKinney, and Ashley McKinney; one great-great grandchild: Angel Self and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hattaway was retired from the Winn Parish Medical Center where she worked for 23 years. She was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late William E. Higgs and the late Bertha (Cockerham) Higgs. Mrs. Hattaway was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Dan Hattaway; and her brother, Wayne E. Higgs. Smiley, Mark Hennigan, Lonnie Wayne Higgs, and Randall Higgs. ===== Herman Ray Thomas (June 23, 1933 - January 12, 2007) Mr. Herman Ray Thomas, age 73, of Winnfield, La., passed away Friday, January 12, 2007, at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Jena, La. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and was Constable of Ward 7, having served for a number of years. Mr. Thomas served his country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was the son of the late T. M. Thomas and the late Lois (Everett) Thomas. Mr. Thomas was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Hazel (Franks) Thomas; of Winnfield, La. One Brother, James M. Thomas and wife Margie of Winnfield, La. Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Interment will be at Couley Double Church Cemetery near Winnfield. ===== Glenn Wyman Futch (November 10, 1925 - January 13, 2007) Glenn Wyman Futch, a resident of Winnfield, LA, peacefully passed away January 13, 2007 at Winn Parish Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Celebration services will be held at 3:00 p.m., January 15, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Winnfield with the Reverands Joe Aulds, Jeff Audirsch, Lindsey Burns, and Lamar Carpenter officiating. Family will welcome visitors at Southern Funeral Home between the hours of 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Garden of Memories in Winnfield. Glenn was born November 10, 1925 to Gordon and Georgia Byram Futch and grew up in the Camp Creek community of Union Parish, LA. He graduated from Spearsville High School and married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Cherry, in 1945. He received his B.S. degree in Forestry from Louisiana Tech in 1952 after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following a brief stint as a Louisiana State Game Warden, Glenn accepted a position at Barksdale Air Force Base. He loved every facet of his work overseeing the Federal Preserve and was actively involved in church and community while living in Bossier City, LA for several years. An opportunity to manage logging and pulpwood operations led Glenn and his family to Winnfield, LA in the late 1950’s. It was here that he built two successful businesses: a timber company and, later, an automobile franchise. An avid outdoorsman, Glen spent many leisurely days at Saline Lake where he loved to fish and entertain friends and family by hosting ‘fish fries’. Traveling throughout the U.S. in his motor home, he enjoyed narrating his own videos all along the way. Glenn was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors for the Winn Parish Medical Center and was a charter member of Winn State Bank (now Sabine). His was a life of philanthropy. He was a strong supporter of Ducks Unlimited, LA Tech Alumni Association and football program, Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Rosemary), and an infant great-grandson, Austin Farmer. He is survived by his wife, Anne (Lasyone) Futch; three daughters and sons-in-law-- Glenda and Phillip Farmer of Memphis, TN, Helen and B.R. Audirsch of Winnfield, LA, and Jeanne and Jimmy Muslow of Shreveport, LA; his daughter, Jennifer Futch of Dallas, TX; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Alice Lasyone of Winnfield; a step-daughter, Shirley (Lasyone) Knotts of Winnfield. Surviving siblings and their spouses are Max and Faye Futch of Baton Rouge, LA, Amarylis (Futch) Rainwater of Camp Creek, Charles and Peggy Futch of Camp Creek, Betty (Futch) and Cecil Ridley of Bridgeport, AL. In addition, surviving grandchildren and their spouses include: Jason and Darby Farmer, Justin and Melissa Farmer, and Libby (Farmer) and Parker Rhett all of Memphis, TN; Jeff Audirsch and Blake Audirsch, both of New Orleans; Jennifer (Muslow) and Patrick Allen of Dallas, TX; Julie (Muslow) and Manny LeClercq of Norman, OK; Jay Muslow of Dallas, TX; and, step-grandchildren Brandon Knotts, Shaun Lasyone, Jody Lasyone, and Alicia Bernard all of Winnfield, LA. He is also survived by three great- grandchildren: Tate and Caroline Farmer of Memphis and Grayson Farmer, also of Memphis and one step- great-grandchild, Zoe Bernard of Winnfield. Glenn was a special grandpa to Bing and Ling Chen of Winnfield since their arrival from China. Pallbearers will be Glenn’s grandsons and step-grandsons. The family suggests that memorials in his honor be designated to the “Building Fund” at First Baptist Church in Winnfield, Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, or the American Cancer Society. ===== Lawrence Earl Keith (August 24, 1942 - January 17, 2007) Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield Mr. Lawrence Earl Keigh, age 64 of Dodson, passed away January 17, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Keith was a truck driver for many years and is a native of Atlanta, Louisiana. He is survived by two daughters: Deanna Lynn Keith of Peoria, Arizona and Gwendolyn Keith of Jonesboro, Louisiana; one sister Mary L. Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona; a half brother, Norman Barton of Winnfield and a half sister Marie Hill of Dodson. Mr. Keith is also survived by a special friend Linda Davis and five grandchilcdren. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brown Cemetery with Reverend Billy Bustin officiating. He was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church in Dodson, La. He was the son of the late Houston Higgs and the late Irene (Boyett) Higgs. Mr. Higgs was also preceded in death by his brother, Hubern Higgs. Mrs. Weatherford was retired from the Central State Hospital in Pineville, La. where she served as a nurse. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jena, La.. . She was a Charter member of United Baptist Church. She was also a Ministers wife for over 30 years, an avid quilter, and a member of the Jordan Hill Home Demonstration Club. She was the daughter of the late Jim Smith and the late Emma (Jordan) Smith. Mrs. Broadway was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. W.W. Broadway; daughter, Norma D. Broadway; son, James Clint Broadway; four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her One Daughter, Nell Weeks and husband Eugene of Goldonna, La. Five grandchildren Steven Broadway of Dodson, La.; Mark Broadway of Dodson, La.; Ty Weeks of Goldonna, La.; Stedman Weeks of Goldonna, La.; Charity Hatten and husband Joshua of Goldonna.
