Mr. Vondus Cobern Alsup, age 79 of Winnfield, passed away Tuesday, May 25,
2004 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield.
Funeral services will be 2PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2004 at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church in Winnfield with Father Richard Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in the New Jerusalem Cemetery under the direction of
Southern Funeral Home.
Friends may visit in the funeral home Wednesday, May 26 from 5PM until
9PM and on Thursday May 27, from 8AM until 12Noon. Friends may also visit
at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Thursday, May 27, from 1PM until time
of services.
Mr. Alsup is preceded in death by a daughter Alice Cindy Guin of Winnfield.
Survivors include: His Wife: Mrs. Alice P. Alsup of Winnfield; Three sons:
Chuck Alsup and wife Jan of Winnfield, Paul Alsup and wife Jill of Winnfield, Phil Alsup of Winnfield; One Daughter Vonette Alsup Britt of Winnfield.
Nine Grandchildren: Chelsea Findley and husband Steve of Gatesville, TX,
Lacey Alsup of Ruston, Daniel P Alsup and wife Cynthia of Winnfield,
Rachel Roberts and husband Josh of Winnfield, Chuck Maxwell & fiancee
Rachel Morgan of Winnfield, Charlotte, Vonessa & Devona Alsup all of Cold
Spring, TX, Aimee Skilgen and husband John of Savannah, GA; Three Great
Grandchildren: Bethany Findley, Chloe & Robbie Skilgen.
One Sister-in-law: Martha Ward & daughter Tammy of Conway, AR and several
nieces & nephews.
Mr. Alsup was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Winnfield. He was
a former florist & mortician with Mulhearn Funeral Homes in North Louisiana and various funeral houmes in Arkansas. He retired from Rock Island Rail Road and was a former employee of Manville Forest Products. Mr. Alsup was also a former deputy with the Winn Parish Sheriff's Auxiliary. He also enjoyed full time farming and gardening.
Pallbearers will be: Chuck Maxwell, Daniel Alsup, Mike Moore, James Turner,
Doug Wells, Josh Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be the Winn Parish
Sheriff's Auxiliary Dupties. The family request that all planned memorials
be made to the Alzheimers's Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave. Ste.# 1700,
Chicago, IL 60601-7633 & Hospice Care of Louisiana in Alexandria, LA.

Joy Ates, age 95 of Natchitoches, La. died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at
Natchitoches Parish Long Term Care Hospital in Natchitoches, La.
She was a member of Sanders Assembly of God and Calvary Baptist Long Term
Care Ministry.
She is the daughter of the late Allen Franks and the late Addie (Oliver)
Franks. she is survived by her: Son: Allen Ates and his wife Helen of
Natchitoches, La. Eleven grandchildren; Twenty Four great-grandchildren;
Twenty One great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ates was preceded in death by her husband Ira Ates; her daughter
Sybil Mixon; her son,  W.A. Ates; and two Great-Grandchildren, Lonnie Page
and Lee Ann Mixon.
Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield,
La., where the family will receive friends from 5PM until 9PM Thursday May
13, 2004 and from 8AM until time of services on Friday, May 14, 2004.
Funeral services will be at Southern Funeral Home Chapel at 2PM. Friday,
May 14, 2004. with Rev. Max Ates officiating. Interment will follow at
the Sanders Chapel Cemetery in Calvin, LA. Grandsons and Great-Grandsons
will serve as pallbearers.

Medical Center in New Orleans.

Mr. Clyde Tyson Howard, Sr., age 85 of Winnfield, died May 28, 2004 in
the V.A. Nursing Home in Alexandria, LA. He was a private in the Antitank
Co. 422nd Infantry with the U.S. Army. He was a WWII veteran of the Battle
of the Bulge and a POW in Germany. He was a member of The American Legion
Dept. La. Post 0401.
Clyde Tyson Howard was born Nov. 28 1918 in Olla, LA. He is preceded in
death by 3 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: Loretta Speed Howard
of Winnfield; four daughters: Joyce Elaine O'Kuniewicz of New Jersey, Linda
Barton, Debbie Kay Moffett and Donna Ann Corbett all of Winnfield LA.;
three sons: Clyde Tyson Howard Jr. of Brooklyn New York, Kenneth Earl
Howard of Winnfield, LA. and Ronald Howard of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
20 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren
and also 3 Sisters.
Military graveside services will be 2PM Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Chickasaw
Cemetery near Olla. under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, with

Baptist Church.
He is the son of the late Thomas Ivy and the late Allie (Robbins) Ivy.
He is survived by his Wife: Lottie Mae Ivy of Winnfield. Two Sons: Jeff
Ivy of Joyce, La. and Toby Ivy of Beaumont TX.; One Daughter: Jamie (Ivy)

Ruth Fikes Barber Sanders, age 87 of Jena LA., died Monday, May 31, 2004
at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena, LA. She was a member of Jehova's
Witnesses.
She is survived by: Two Sons: Brian Barber of Georgetown, La. and Eddie
Barber of Little Creek La.; Two Daughters: Josie Guin of Jena LA. and
Margaret Poisson of San Carlos CA; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Cox-Guin Cemetery
near Winnfield at 5:30PM with Shannon Lemons officiating. Services will

Mrs. Smedley died Monday, May 24, 2004 at Lincoln General Hospital following a lenghty illness.

Mrs. Smedley is preceded in death by her husband: Albert Smedley and daughter
Francis Barlow. Douglas W. Thompson, age 21 of Winnfield, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004
at the Winn Parish Medical Center.
Douglas was born in Jonesboro, LA and was a 2001 Graduate of Winnfield
Senior High School. He was a member of the Dodson Assembly of God. Douglas
worked as a pipeliner and was a member of Pipeliners Local # 798 and the
International Brotherhood of Laborers in Tampa, FL. He was preceded in
death by his Maternal Grandfather, Tommy Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his Father and Step-Mother Douglas Thompson,
Sr. and his wife Shani of Winnfield, LA; His Mother and Step-Father,
Elizabeth Ann Thompson Davis and her Husband Paul of Jonesboro, LA; His
Sisters Keli Thompson of Jonesboro,LA, and Billie Thompson of Winnfield,
LA; Paternal Grandparents: Billy and Katherine Thompson of Winnfield,
LA. Maternal Grandmother: Linda Temple of Owasso, Oklahoma. He is also
survived by a host of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Maurine Ward

Susan Maurine Malone Ward, formerly of Montgomery, died May 28, 2004
in a Crowley hospital. She was 89. Funeral services will be held June 1,
3PM at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery with Pastor George
McVay III, Dr. Jimmy Walker and Mr. Eugene Love officiating. Burial will
follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral
Home of Winnfield. The family will receive visitors at the church prior
to the service.
Mrs. Ward was born in Union Parish to Rodell and Sophronia Nolan Malone
February 5, 1915. She attended Farmerville schools. She met and married
David L. Ward April 23, 1933. Mrs. Ward spent most of her life as a
resident of Montgomery where she was active in her church and community.
As a member of First United Methodist Church, she served as church
treasurer for many years, was an adult Sunday School teacher, a life
member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, a delegate to Annual
Conference and a member of the Weslyan Service Guild. Mrs. Ward loved
fishing, growing flowers and was known for her wonderful chocolate pies.
She is survived by two sons: Charles Ward and wife Mona of Crowley and
Robert Ward and wife Janis of Waco; two sisters Dhale Love and husband
Eugene of Winnfield and Loette McIntosh of Bernice; a brother in law
Mitchell Brasher of Farmerville; four grandchildren: Leonard Ward and
wife Dawn of Evangeline, Michael Ward and wife Tracy of Jennings, Matthew
Ward of Houston and Rebecca Ward of Austin TX; seven great grandchildren:
David, Maegan, Jarrad, Ashley, Blanche, Madisyn, Lauryn Ward and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ward is preceded in death by her husband David: son David Lynn and
his wife Pauline. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church
of Montgomery.

He was a member of the Atlanta Baptist church and a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was also a member of Eastern Star Lodge #151 F&AM and a member of the
Scottish Rite Bodies of Monroe.
He is the son of the late Robert Worsham and the late Mary Maude (Kolb)
Worsham.
He is survived by his Brother: James worsham of Itasca IL. and One Sister
Helen Jones of Ruston Mr. Worsham is preceded in death by: Two sisters and
two brothers.
