Mr. Melton was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving for five years. Mr. Melton was born and raised in Winn Parish. On returning to Winn Parish from the army, Mr. Melton operated a shoe repair business in Winnfield for many years. Mr. Melton, served on the Winn Parish Police Jury from 1952 to 1956, was superintendent of streets for the City of Winnfield for several years and owned and operated the Lone Star Café. Mr. Melton lived at Mulligan Inn on Saline Lake for 17 years and was known by friends as an avid fisherman. Mr. Melton was a member of the Board of Directors for the Winn Parish Fair Board when the buildings were built that still stand today. Mr. Melton is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years: Grace S.
