All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 2, 1934 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Clarence Dark Dies Suddenly At His Home Here Funeral Services Held On Thursday; Interment In Local Cemetery Clarence Lee Dark, age 42 years, 4 months and 26 days, died suddenly at his home here Wednesday afternoon, August 1, 1934, while he was preparing to go to work, following his noon-day nap. Mr. Dark, although in ill health for several years, and under the care of physicians, had continued his work as an employee of the Louisiana highway department and as a member of the police jury from Ward One. Mr. Dark was a member of a prominent family in Winn Parish. He was born and reared in the Gaars Mill Community. When a young man he came to Winnfield where he married Miss Eugenia Sowers to which union four children were born, Charles, Donald, Jean Claire, and Carrie, all of whom survive. He also is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Dark of Gaars Mill; three sisters, Mrs. D. E. Sikes and Mrs. Leona Sowers, Winnfield, Mrs. Roy Sanders, Calvin, and seven brothers, J. E. Dark, Woodrow, Lyndon, Z. T., and Shelby, Gaars Mill; Dewitt Dark, Ruston, and Ross Dark of Columbia. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, having become affiliated with this denomination when a youth. Funeral services were held Thursday at 4 o'clock at the home on West Main Street. The Rev. B. C. Land, pastor First Baptist Church, Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Ellis Smith, pastor First Methodist Church had charge of the last rites. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Active pallbearers were F. E.
