All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 14, 1950 Winnfield News-American Coroner's Jury Rules Two Winn Deaths Accidental A verdict of accidental death was reported by a five-man Winn Parish coroner's jury Monday after an inquest of a highway accident which took the lives of Mrs. Sara Jane Davison, 71, and her daughter, Miss Ollie Estes, 42, both of Crews Community in Winn Parish. They were killed instantly when they stepped from behind a Shreveport bound passenger bus and into the path of a car driven by Staff Sergeant Angelo D. Divinecapa of Barksdale Field, who was en route to visit his parents at Amite when the accident occurred, about 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, four miles north of Montgomery on U. S. Highway 71. The coroner's jury ruled that there was no evidence of criminal negligence by Sergeant Divinecapa. Testifying at the inquest were the Barksdale sergeant, State Trooper C. C. Wilson of Natchitoches, E. A. Lee, officer who investigated the accident, and Cupid Brew, negro. Members of the Coroner's Jury were W. H. Carter, J. H. Martin, J. A. Philen, G. H. Buchanan, and R. L. Luther. Dr. G. M. Rodgers, deputy coroner, officiated at the inquest. Last Rites Held Funeral services for Mrs. Davison and Miss Estes were conducted at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 9, with the Rev. Jack Shaw of Greenwood, La., Rev. O'Connor, Hargis pastor, and Rev. Jerry Green, Union Hill pastor, officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mrs. Davison was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church, Miss Estes was affiliated with the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Surviving Mrs. Davison are four children, Mrs. Van Davison and Alvis Estes of Montgomery, Mrs. Jim Lewis of Epps, Leon Estes of Waskom, Texas; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. P. R. Jennings and Mrs. Miranda Bazar of Montgomery; John Kelly of Shreveport (brother?). Surviving Miss Estes are two sisters, two brothers, three nieces, and one nephew.
