Davis, Ruston V. M. Davis, 78, senior partner in the Davis Brothers Lumber Company at Ansley, dropped dead at his home in Ruston at 7 p.m. Saturday, a victim of heart failure. Mr. Davis, known as one of the most successful business and lumbermen in North Louisiana, was born in Vitta County, Mississippi, and moved with his family to Columbia County, Arkansas, while he was still a boy. A few years later the family moved to Prescott, Ark., and then in 1902 to Ruston. The Davis Brothers Lumber Company was established that same year. In addtion to his connection with the lumber company at Ansley, Mr. Davis was a director of numerous banks and lumber companies throughout Louisiana and Arkansas. His death leaves only one survivor among the original founders of the Davis company, his older brother, John M. Davis, also of Ruston. Other survivors in his immediate family are the widow and four daughters, Mrs. G. E. Lasky, Mrs. Alex T. Hunt, Mrs. Allen Barksdale, and Mrs. J. C. Ritchie, all of Ruston. Funeral services were held Sunday in Ruston.
