All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the July 26, 1946 Winnfield News-American Funeral Conducted For Mrs. Dawson, 76, at Zion Church Long Time Winnfield Resident Dies Thursday After Long Illness Funeral services for Mrs. Manie Mazella Riley Dawson, 76, who died at her home here at 9:40 a.m. Thursday following a long illness, were conducted at the Zion Baptist Church near Georgetown at 3 p.m. Friday with Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in the Zion Cemetery. Born in Butler County, Ala., on February 20, 1870, Mrs. Dawson moved to Winn Parish when she was a young woman and was married to Robert T. Dawson on January 1, 1899. To this union were born a son, Homer Dawson, who died in infancy, and three daughters, one of whom, Marie (Mrs. Chris Bailey), died several years ago. Surviving besides Mr. Dawon are two daughters, Velma (Mrs. Will Maxwell), Route 2, and Idell (Mrs. L. D. McConathy), Route 4; three brothers, T. R. Riley and George Riley of Route 2, and Gip Riley of Winnsboro, and ten grandchildren, including: Billy, Lyndle and Felton Maxwell, Mrs. Christine Bennett, Mrs. Magadene Collins and George Bailey, and Shepherd McConathy (now with the armed forces in Japan), Bobby Joe, Dorene and Jack McConathy. Four grandchildren are deceased. Mrs. Dawson was a member of the Zion Baptist Church for 44 years, and had resided in Winnfield for the past 22 years. Pallbearers, with the exception of Leslie Collins, were grandsons of the deceased, including Billy, Lyndle and Felton Maxwell, George Bailey and Bobby Joe McConathy.
