Dean, Sr., 61, Dies Thursday In Rapides Hospital Funeral services will be conducted here today at 10 a.m. for Edward J. Dean, Sr., 61, of Winnfield, who died Thursday in an Alexandria hospital following a long illness. Services will be held in the family residence with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, in charge, assisted by Rev. Fred S. Flurry, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Hixon Brothers Funeral Home. The deceased who was employed by the American Creosote Company, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maud Dean; a son, E. J. Dean, Jr., of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Sye Varnell and Mrs. Ranel Brady, Jr., of Winnfield and Mrs. R. W. Awalt of Bryan, Texas; two brothers, Milton Dean of Cotton Valley and Harvey Dean of Pine Prairie, La., and four sisters, mrs. Willie Preston of Ferriday, Mrs. Vasar Stewart of Dodson, Mrs. Sam Goodwin of Alexandria, and Mrs. Ida Brown of Springhill. Mr. Dean was a native of Dodson.
