Bill Dean, brother of Mrs. Ira Key of Winnfield and son of Mr. and Mrs. Abb Dean of Calvin, has been reported missing in action by the war department, according to a message received by his parents recently. Sgt. Dean was stationed on Luzon Island in the Philippines. The report stated that he had been missing since the fall of Corregidor on May 7, however, the was a possibility that he had been taken prisoner by the Japanese, and until a list of prisoners was obtained from the enemy, his name would remain on the official "missing in action" list. On the same day that the message from the war department arrived the parents of Sgt. Dean received a letter from their son written in March saying that he was alright and had not participated in any of the battles up to that time. Sgt. Dean enlisted in the Technical Supply division of the Army Air Corps at Barksdale Field on July 19, 1939. He was sent to the Philippines in November, 1941.
