All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 24, 1954 Winnfield News-American Accidental Discharge Of gun Kills Harold DeBray Early Monday Morning Harold DeBray, age 55, general station agent for the Tremont & Gulf Railway Company here, was accidentally killed Monday morning about 7:45 when his shotgun discharged while he was cleaning and repairing it in preparation for skeet shooting. Dr. George M. Rodgers, deputy parish coroner, said death was almost instantaneous, following an investigation. The charge of the .12 guage gun hit in the left side of the neck. He was found by his wife after she returned from across the street where she had been visiting her sister, Mrs. M. T. Crowe. He had taken the gun to his workshop in the garage and apparently had placed the gun butt on the floor to work on the ejector that had been hanging. Born in Atlanta, Geortia, Mr. DeBray has resided in Winnfield about 40 years. During his entire residence here he has been employed by the Tremont & Gulf Railway Company, and for the past several years has served as general station agent. He holds membership in the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151 F. & A. M., the Winnfield Lions Club, and has been active in civic and church affairs. Funeral services were held this afternoon (Tuesday) at four o'clock at the First Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. P. M. Carraway of Pineville, Rev. J. J. Carraway, Shreveport, and Rev. G. A. Morgan of Hodge. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers, funeral directors. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. May Jackson DeBray; one son, Harold J. DeBray of Fairbanks; one daughter, Mrs. Stone Carraway, Shreveport; his mother, Mrs. Ida DeBray and two brothers, Fred and Jewel DeBray of Atlanta, Georgia, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Percy Roberts, Dan Page, Houston Smith, Burton H. Williams, Clyde DeLoach, and W. L. Kirkpatrick.
