All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 22, 1925 Winnfield News-American Mrs. Mary Dickerson Dead Again we mark the passing of one of the old, highly respected and well known citizens of Winn Parish and Winnfield. Mrs. Mary M. Dickerson who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. W. Bailey, was ninety years two months and twenty four days old. She was born in Tennessee, February 25th, 1835. In 1861, February 5th, she was married to Mr. John Dickerson and in 1859 they moved to Winn Parish where they resided, and being among the pioneers of this section had many hardships during the Civil War and the period following. To this union were born six children all of whom are living, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Mrs. Dickerson joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South at the age of nine and died as she lived trusting in the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was made a life member of the Methodist Missionary Society in 1859. Her favorite Bible passage was this verse from the 103 Psalm, "Bless the Lord O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His Hold name." Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church here Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock conducted by the Rev. D. C. Barr of Winnsboro, a former pastor of the deceased, with interment in the Winnfield Cemetery following. Mrs. Dickerson is survived by her six children, Mrs. B. W. Bailey, Mrs. J. R. Hall, Mr. W. F. Dickerson, Mr. M M. Dickerson, all of Winnfield, and Mrs. Geo. L. Wyatt of Couley and Mrs. H. L. Brian of Verda. The News-American tenders its sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
