All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 20, 1958 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Colored Deaths Matt Jones Dodson Funeral services for Matt Jones Dodson, 85, well known Negro resident of Winnfield, who died at her home in the Brick Yard Quarters, Monday, Feb. 24, after an illness of ten years, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morning Star Baptist Church. The pastor, Rev. H. Y. Bell was in charge of the last rites. Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery. A native of Grant Parish, Matt came to Winnfield when a small child and spent the remainder of her life here. She was the oldest member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, which she helped to organize, and she served as its first secretary. She was the widow of the late Joe Dodson, an employee of many families in this town. Surviving are three daughters, Pennie Wade and Elva Brown of Winnfield, Lessie Jackson of Alexandria; a stepdaughter, Jodie Jones, Shreveport; three brothers, Morris and Harold Jones, Winnfield, Burley Jones, Alexandria; one sister, Annie Fowler, Deltoso Heights, Calif.; five grandchildren and give great grandchildren.
