Doughty Services for Major M. Doughty of Many, La., were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 1983 at Hixson Funeral Chapel in Jena, La., with Rev. Donald Doughty of Plain Dealing, La., nephew of the deceased, and Rev. Coda Salter of Tullos, La., officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, seven miles from Jena near White Hill with military rites at the gravesite. Paul Richard Doughty, also a nephew of the deceased was in charge of the full military service which included a 21 gun salute, taps, and presentation of the American flag to Mr. Doughty's son. He died Monday, December 19, 1983, at 1:30 a.m. at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Alexandria, La., after an illness of only three weeks. Mr. Doughty was born and reared in Tullos, La., the son of a Baptist minister, and he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tullos. Beginning with military service in the 2nd Armored Division of the U. S. Army under Gen. George S. Patton, Major M. Doughty earned a distinguished war record. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Edna Tarver. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Avoy O. Sanders, a native of Castor Creek Community in Winn Parish; one son, Michael Doughty; two daughters, Martha Doughty and Mrs. Bruce (Charlotte) Thomas, with two grandsons, Jonathan and James Brad Thomas, all of Sulphur, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Breithaupt of Buna, Texas and Mrs. Marie Lucas of Vidor, Texas; two brothers, John Lee Doughty, Sr., and Henry G. Doughty, both of Tullos; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were John Lee Doughty, Jr., James Breithaupt, David Wayne Doughty, Tommy McComic and Larry Doughty. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Loftin and Ernest Gorman.
