Dow, Age 6, Dies of Pistol Shot Wound Tues. Night George J. Dow, 6 year old son of Mr. Ed Dow of Winnfield, was accidentally shot through the head with a .38 pistol at about 5 o'clock Tuesday evening, by Stanley Ryker, age 12, from which wounds he died a few hours later. From what could be learned of the accident, it was claimed that the Ryker boy and his younger brother had taken the gun from Sookul's gunshop and taking the little Dow boy with them had gone to a lot near Mr. H. L. Boyett's place to shoot pigeons belonging to Mr. Boyett. The accident occurred when the little Dow boy, who was sitting on the ground in front of the other two boys, suddenly sprang to his feet in front of Ryker as the pistol was discharged. Dr. S. C. Fittz, coroner, empaneled a jury yesterday who after investigating the case, arrived at the conclusion that the death was caused by accidental discharge of a pistol in the hands of Stanley Rykar. The jury was composed of A. P. Smith, W. J. Miller, W. W. Trainer, W. J. Massey, and C. R. Mixon. Mr. Dow has the sympathy of everybody in the community who deplore the tragic death of his little son. Useless firearms should be kept out of reach of children who may not realize the danger in handling them until such a tragedy as this one has occurred. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30. Father Lambert of the Colfax Catholic Church conducted the service. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery.
