In Memory of Sister Catherine Drewett On the morning of May 24, 1915, the death angel came to the home of Bro. Daniel Drewett and claimed for its victum sister Drewett. She was born in Mississippi, March 8, 1841. At the age of 19 she married C. F. Drewett, and moved to Alabama in 1860. To this union was born seven children, of whom three preceeded her to the other world. She was left a widow in 1877 to face the storms of life. She joined the Baptist church at the age of 15, and lived a consistent life up to her death. In 1866 they came to Louisiana and settled in the Sardis community, and she identified herself with the church and remained one of its livest members until the end. Sister Drewett was a devoted christian and always took great pleasure in her church work, and when her health failed so as to keep her from attending church she always expressed herself as being submissive to the Lord's will. It was my privilege to be her pastor only about 8 months before she died, but for the short acquaintance I had with her I found in her life an example worthy of commendation to all living people. All through her last sickness she bore it with patience and looked forward for the time to come when her Heavenly Father would call for her to come up higher. Sister Drewett was making her home with her son Daniel at the time of her death, and will be greatly missed by the family and friends. The church and community have lost a faithful friend, but Heaven has gained the earthly loss. She was laid to rest in the Sardis cemetery where her remains will rest until the glorius ressurection when these bodies of ours shall come forth from the grave in the likeness of our blessed Christ. Then, and not until then, will we be satisfied. To the bereaved ones we would commend the Father above who knows how to take care of his people, and who is able to keep them. C. B.
