Jack Drewett, Well Loved Youth, Dies in Hospital Last Mon. Death Followed An Operation for Appendicitis which was Performed the Previous Thursday. A pall of sadness was cast over the entire town and community Monday afternoon, July 26th, when it was learned that Jack Drewett had died at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria where he was carried last Thursday night for an operation for appendicitis. Although the operation was considered serious his condition seemed favorable until Sunday afternoon when he took a turn for the worse. Monday morning about 10 o clock after many hours of intense suffering he lapsed into a coma from which he never rallied, death coming at 3:15 P. M. He was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. W. U. Drewett and at the time of his death was 16 years, 7 months and 29 days old. Jack was one of the best liked boys of our town having resided her practically all his life and was a graduate of the Winnfield High School last session. He was also one of the most popular members of Seery s Band. The deceased has been an active member of the First Baptist Church for the past three years and has lived an upright, exemplary life that will have its influence for years to come with the younger people of the town with whom he was associated. The remains were brought home overland from Alexandria Monday accompanied by his parents, a brother and other relatives and friends who were with him when the end came. The funeral services, attended by hundreds of sorrowing friends were held at the Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 4 o clock conducted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes. The choir was composed of members of his graduating class and who again sang their Farewell song. Interment was in the Winnfield cemetery. The many floral offerings were a beautiful mute testimony of the love and friendship generally felt for this fine boy. Besides his parents he leaves two older brothers, Otto and Howard, one younger brother, Harold and a sister, Nannie Belle of the immediate family and many other relatives and friends to mourn his early passing.
