T. Colwell, Sr., Native Of Winn Succumbs July 21 Dewitt Talmadge Colwell, Sr., 70, died Tuesday, July 21, at his home in Alexandria. He was a retired switchman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and was a former resident of Winnfield. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. in the Baptist Temple Church in Alexandria, Wednesday, and burial was in Iatt Cemetery near Verda. He is survived by his widow; three sons, Cecil N. Colwell, Pineville, Herschel H. Colwell, Irving, Tex., and D. T. Colwell, Jr., of Alexandria; four sisters, Mrs. Sadie Thomas of Winnfield, Mrs. Thelma deVerge of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Virginia Porter of Ferriday, and Miss Olive Colwell of Lake Charles, and seven grandchildren. Mr. Colwell, who will be remembered at "Tight", was a big time baseball player for many years. He pitched in several games with Texas League in Shreveport and then in the Virginia League, after which he returned to Winnfield where he resided for many years before moving to Alexandria.
