J. P. Durham Buried Oct. 3 In Local Cemetery Funeral services for the Rev. J. P. Durham, 91, retired Baptist minister, who died at his home in Shreveport Monday, were held at Ingleside Baptist Church, Shreveport, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial followed in the Winnfield cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Durham, a nephew of Shreveport, conducted the graveside rites. A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Durham was born at Atlanta and reared at Winnfield. He had served as pastor of churches in Winnfield, Shreveport, Vivian, Bastrop, Bernice, Springhill, and Junction City, Ark. He had been retired for the past 21 years. An author and musician, Mr. Durham published in 1961 the biography of his father, James Lucius Durham, Hero To All His Children, and in 1952 published one of his uncle, A. P. Durham, Apostle of Sunshine. He also composed music and wrote poetry. The biographies contained valuable history of Winn Parish residents and events from Civil War days to the time the railroads came to this area. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lillian McKeeham of Fayetteville, Ark.; five sons, A. Gordon Durham of Seattle, Wash., Dr. Kenneth R. Durham of Tahoka, Tex., F. Manning Durham of Monroe, James Hu Durham of Oklahoma City, Okla., and J. P. Durham of New Orleans; two sisters, Mrs. Lulu bond of North Augusta, S. C. and Mrs. Alma Latham of Mansfield; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
