Durham, Winn Native, Dies In DeQuincy Robert L. Durham, 87, born in the Sardis Community November 30, 1883, died August 22, 1971 in DeQuincy, La., after a short illness. He was the son of the late Thomas B. Durham and Martha Martin Durham, pioneers who came to Winn Parish from Georgia in the 1850s. Mr. Durham was a member of the Baptist Church for 70 years, a Mason, and a retired school teacher, having taught in Winn, Grant, and Beauregard Parishes for 45 years. Funeral services were held August 24 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church and burial was in a cemetery near Field, La. Survivors are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. J. N. Gore of Silsbee, Texas, and Mrs. J. D. Watson of Galveston; two sons, Roy L. Durham of Belle Chasse, La., and James M. Durham of Duson, La.; two sisters, Mrs. R. E. Mathews of Winnfield and Mrs. D. H. Wallace of Verda; one brother, Thomas B. Durham, Jr., of Houston; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
