H. Davis, Sr., Saturday Last rites for Mrs. A. H. Davis, Sr., who died suddenly at her home here Friday afternoon, were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church with Rev. G. A. Morgan and Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Bryant Sholars, Walter W. Allen, P. K. Abel, Shirley Jackson, Judge R. W. Oglesby, and Burton Williams. Surviving are her husband, A. H. Davis, Sr., of Winnfield; two sons, Charlie Davis of Shreveport and A. H. Davis, Jr., of San Francisco, and six grandchildren, three of Winnfield and three of Shreveport. Mrs. Davis was born at Hermanville, Mississippi, October 23, 1959. She was the daughter of Captain P. C. Hull, one of the old time plantation gentry. Captain Hull came to Mississippi when it was a province or territory known as Pearl River Division. The Hull family came to America at the time the English people were settling on the James River and they originated at the seaport town of Hull, England. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were married at Hermanville, Miss., on June 5, 1888 and lived there until 1890 when Mr. Davis was made night dispatcher on the LNO & T Railroad, now the Y'MV at Leland River Side District. From there they went to Rosedale, Miss., and in 1900 to Greenwood, Miss. Leaving Greenwood they returned to Rosedale and then in 1903 Mr. Davis was moved to Vicksburg as general agent, and in 1906 he came to Winnfield as agent for the Edenborn Lines when it was the LR & N. It was consolidated with the L. & A. in 1929 and Mr. and Mrs. Davis moved to Gramercy, La., where he was agent. He retired from railroad service September 3, 1937, after a period of fifty-two years and one month's service. When Mr. and Mrs. Davis moved here in 1918 he bought a home which he presented to Mrs. Davis for a Christmas present, and which he has retained all during the time he has resided elsewhere. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at Winnfield, June 5, 1938. Mrs. Davis, a constant and gentle Christian, a faithful and loving wife, and a devoted mother, was a friend to humanity. She often told her husband that she was ready to go when the Master called her as she had no fear.
