All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 22, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise Three Negroes Killed When Cars Collide White Man Uninjured In Crash Friday Night; No Charges Filed Willie Davis, a negro who operates a pressing shop in Winnfield was slightly injured and three members of his family were killed last Friday night when his car collided with one driven by Ellis Higgs near Tannehill on the Winnfield- Jonesboro highway. Pearl Davis, the negro's wife, and two children, Loretta, 2 « years old, and Willie, Jr., age six weeks, were those killed in the accident. It was stated that Davis, going about 30 miles per hour, was struck by the other vehicle, which was traveling at 20 miles an hour. The right fronts of both automobiles were badly damaged. Ellis was driving a Chevrolet sedan and Davis was driving a Ford Tudor. The injured and dead were brought to the Fittz-Faith clinic where Davis received treatment. Mr. M. J. Boyett, who runs a filling station at Tannehill, reported the accident to Sheriff Bryant Sholars at Winnfield. No charges have been filed against Higgs, Mr. Sholars stated. The automobile driven by Ellis Higgs was the property of J. C. Higgs.
