Eugene William Emerson Succumbs To Short Illness

Funeral Services Held Here With Interment in Zion Cemetery Near Coushatta

Eugene William Emerson, 42 years, 8 months, and 15 days, succumbed at his home
here Saturday, December 24, after a short illness, the result of a relapse of
the flu.  Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Monday
morning with the Rev. A. H. Cullen in charge, and the Rev. Alwin Stokes
assisting.  Interment was in the Zion Cemetery near Coushatta.

Mr. Emerson was born in Magnolia, Ark., but moved to Louisiana with his
parents when a small child.  At the age of 17 years he became a member of the
Methodist Episcopal Church, moving his membership in later years to Winnfield. 
He was also a member of the W. O. W.

Mr. Emerson was married to Miss Rosa Gillen of Coushatta, April 4, 1920.  They
have been residing in Winnfield for the past 12 years where Mr. Emerson was
first engaged in the grocery business and later in the nursery business.

The deceased is survived by his widow; two children, Clingman, age 10, and
Charles William, age 8; mother, Mrs. Bettie C. Emerson, of Winnfield; three
sisters, Mrs. Tina Norton, Haynesville; Mrs. Effie Walsh, Washington, D. C.,
and Mrs. Belle Stephenson, Winnfield; and one brother, Henry David Emerson, of
Alexandria.

Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the last rites were Mr.
and Mrs. W. V. Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Page and Mr. Loyd Warren, of West Monroe; 
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Garrett and daughter, Mrs. Ama Norton, Mr. Malvin E. Norton
and Mr. Mrytis Norton of Haynesville; Mr. and Mrs. Smallwood and Mr. Darby of
Alexandria; Mr. R. D. Martin and Mrs. Daisy Baker of Shreveport.
