Emerson Services for Dr. Samuel Morris Emerson of Lake Charles, La., were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 14, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Charles. The Rev. John Lipscomb officiated. Burial was in Prien Memorial Park under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Dr. Emerson, 59, died Friday, September 13, 1991, in a Lake Charles hospital after a brief illness following a heart attack. The Winnfield native, who had lived in Lake Charles since 1965, was born April 3, 1932, son of the late John S. and Harriette Krizman Emerson of Winnfield. An opthamologist with the Eye Clinc, he received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and his doctor of medicine degree from Tulane School of Medicine where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1961 as a captain and flight surgeon. Dr. Emerson served on the staff at Memorial, Humana, and St. Patrick Hospitals, and was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, Louisiana-Mississippi O. & O., and American Academy of Opthamology. He was president of the Lake Charles Community Band, a past president of the Lake Charles Symphony, and a past president of the Calcasieu Kiwanis Club. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Betty Beardon Emerson of Lake Charles; one son, John Samuel Emerson of Lake Charles; two daughters, Denise Lynn Emerson of Charlotte, N. C., and Kathleen Emerson Johnston of Marblehead, Mass.; one brother, James Hall Emerson of Winnfield; one sister, Mercedes Carolyn Emerson, recently of Winnfield but now of Lake Charles.
