L. Dow Emmons March 17 Funeral services for Rev. Lorenzo Dow Emmons, 88, of Sikes, who succumbed at a Jonesboro Clinic, March 16, following a short illness, were held March 17 at Harmony Grove with Rev. J. W. Buckner of Jonesboro officiating. Burial was under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. In the ministry 68 years, Rev. Emmons, a native of Mississippi, moved to Winn parish at an early age to the Gaars Mill community where he was reared and educated. From Gaars Mill he moved to the Sikes community to reside twenty four years before his death. At 19 years of age he married Rilla Branch who died 23 years ago. Although a retired Baptist minister, Rev. Emmons was active in the preaching of the gospel until a short time prior to his death. Surviving Rev. Emmons are his wife, Mrs. Adeline Campbell Emmons; six daughters, Mrs. G. C. Kidd and Mrs. A. L. Crain, of Sikes, La.; Mrs. L. T. Newsom of Lake Charles, La.; Mrs. G. L. Womack of Chatham, La.; Mrs. J. F. Bowen of Wyatt, La.; and Mrs. V. E. Howse of Tyler, Texas; three sons, J. R. Emmons of Fort Worth, Texas, S. R. Emmons of Baton Rouge, La., and J. M. Emmons of Shreveport, La.; 90 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
