A. Erskins of Sikes, November 8 Life-Long Resident of Community Succumbs Funeral services for Mrs. G. A. Erskins, 75, of Sikes, who died at her home Friday, November 8, 1940, at 6:30 a.m. were held at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Sikes Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. S. Emmons and Rev. T. A. Ratliff officiating. Interment was in the Sikes Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Atma and Sherman Erskins, Ray Miller, Morris Gates, Herbert McMurry, and Allen Parker. Mrs. Erskins, a native of the Sikes community, was born March 1, 1865. She became a member of the Sikes Church in 1911 and remained a devoted worker until her death. Surviving are her husband, G. A. Erskins; five daughters, Mrs. Nancy Parker, Mrs. Sam Gates, Mrs. Mary Gulledge, Mrs. Ester Miller, and Mrs. Onas McMurry; one son, Chester Erskins, all of Sikes; thirty one grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, R. W. and A. J. Crain of Sikes and two sisters, Mrs. Juella Emmons of Sikes and Mrs. Elmer Womack of Oak Grove also survive.
