Erskins of Sikes, died at the home of his parents Friday, June 30, after an illness of several months. Funeral services were conducted at the Sikes Baptist Church Sunday, July 2, 1944, with the pastor, Rev. J. W. Buckner officiating. Interment was in the Sikes Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were L. W. Gulledge, M. B. Parker, C. H. McMurry, Marvin Emmons, G. E. Walker, Jr., Puckett Willis, Earl Ussrey, and R. E. Emmons. The deceased was born August 29, 1917 in the Corinth community but at an early age moved to Sikes with his parents. Following his graduation from the Sikes High School in 1934 he attended Louisiana State University one semester, and then assisted his father in the post office. Four or five years later he became associated with Sheriff Bryant Sholars as a deputy which position he held at the time of his death. He was well known throughout this section and has a host of friends who regret to learn of his death. Mr. Erskins had been a member of the Sikes Baptist Church since early childhood. Surviving are his parents; one brother, M/T Sgt. Benjamin Erskins in the South Pacific; one sister, Mrs. W. L. Walker, of Sikes; and one foster sister, Mrs. Laurie Newsom of Sikes.
