R. Estes died at the home of his son, J. M. Estes, at Emden, La. Brother Estes was born near Atlanta, Ga., on April 14, 1827, and departed this life on August 7, 1907, aged 80 years, 3 months and 28 days. He leaves six children; four sons and two daughters and several grandchildren, with a host of warm friends to mourn his loss. Too much cannot be said of this noble man. He moved to Winn parish, La., in 1857 and in December, 1858, was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Phillips, with whom he lived a devoted husband and father, until she was called to her final reward on June 24, 1899. His remains were laid by the side of his devoted wife in the Mount Zion graveyard after a beautiful and touching funeral service by Rev. Wm. Teddlie, at 3:30 p.m., August 8, 1907. As was said before, he was a brave soldier in the Confederate army. Soon after the war he joined the Missionary Baptist church, and after his worth as a church member was established he was ordained a deacon in which capacity he served until his death. A. J. O'QUIN.
