Evans Of Sardis Dies At Daughter's Home Mrs. Mary Jane Evans, age 88, died Sunday evening, July 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Shelton. The entire community was shrouded in gloom with the passing of this noble Christian character. She united with the Sardis Baptist Church at an early age and joyfully spent her time in service for the Lord whom she loved. In the death of Grandmother Evans, her children lose a kind and loving mother, her friends a loyal advisor, and her Church a staunch worker. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. D. Sherwood at the Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Sardis Cemetery. Besides a host of friends, Mrs. Evans leaves to mourn her departure one son, G. W. Evans, three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Shelton and Mrs. John Shelton of Sardis, and Mrs. Ben Sermons of Montgomery, a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
