Ernest Evans Held Fri. Rev. Ernest W. Evans, 64, of Winnfield drowned in Saline Lake near here Wednesday, February 12, 1969 at about 10:25 a.m. A native of Winn Parish, he was a retired Baptist minister and at the time of his death was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist church. Rev. Evans had been in the ministry for approximately 30 years and was well known throughout this area having served as pastor in many churches in Winn Association and surrounding area. He had supplied the pulpit in most every church in Winn Association on several occasions. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Evans of Winnfield; a son Chaplain Glenn Evans of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Garrett of Lagrange, Ga.; his father, George W. Evans of Winnfield; five brothers, Wilbur Evans of Winnfield, George B. Evans of Montgomery, Johnny Evans of Marshall, Tex., Wade Evans of Tioga, Willie Evans of Cutoff; two half-brothers, Walker Silman of Brownwood, Tex., Thomas Silman of Montgomery, five sisters, Mrs. Amy Shaw of Tullos, Mrs. Florella Keys of Chatham, Mrs. Lula Smiley of Dodson, Mrs. Ollie Storey of Groves, Tex., Mrs. Ottie Evans of Winnfield and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Laurel Heights Baptist church with Rev. C. C. Martin, Rev. C. B. Ellis and Rev. Wayne Toms officiating. Burial was in Sardis cemetery under direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Dr. Henry T. Parker, Frank Adcock, Owen Anders, James Machen, Murphy Worsham and Eugene Love.
